Re: One Landing Light or two?
Installed the new lights from Goodiesforpilots. Had a chance to use them and was very happy about the current draw and, of course, the visibility. Haven't used them at night yet. We will see about that. I don't fly at night much. I mostly wanted the visibility because I am based in a very busy Class...

Re: One Landing Light or two?
Thanks for all the replies and great advice. I will be ordering the Goodiesforpilots landing and taxi light as well as the WigWag switch. Since I am based in a busy class C and lots of military training it can only help.

One Landing Light or two?
53 C is a 1950 A model. I have a landing light switch that, as far as I know, has only one ON position. So, do I have two landing lights? Also, Im considering replacing my burned out 4509 with Aero-lights LEDS. I have searched the forum and read what I found about TSO/PMA etc. Any of you recently ch...

Re: 170 elevator trim push rod
HI Don,
On my A model, I disconnected the push rod at the trim tab, removed the elevator hinge bolts and, with help, moved the elevator aft. The bolt and nut are then exposed so you can disconnect the forward end of the push rod.

+1 for Airtex. I installed a wool headliner in my A model. The fit was great.

Re: $100 Hamburger SOUTH EAST (AL,GA,FL,SC,NC,VA)
One of the first stops for 53C was a lunch run to Jack Edwards Airport in Gulf Shores, AL. https://www.airnav.com/airport/KJKA/PLATINUM_AIR_CENTER There is a new FBO there, Platinum Air Center, that discounted fuel purchase $.50 a gallon for first time visitors. Next, we borrowed the crew car and dr...

Re: Interior pics
I have to say Im pretty happy with the Airtex Interior. New headliner, carpet and side panels really dressed the old girl up. The seats are what was in there and in pretty good shape so I'll use them for now.

Re: Interior pics
Vern, Isn't that panel supposed to fit into a metal lip under the window? Also did they recover your arm rests? I talked to Airtex on the phone yesterday and am not very confident they will match the sewn in patterns on seats or sidewalls. I sent pictures to them but they have not responded yet. Th...

Re: Interior pics
Got my Airtex sides and carpet today. That's gonna be a big step up for 53C. I don't know what was in there but I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be there. I fitted the side panels and the carpet and it looks like I will have to do some trimming to use the channels around the back windows. I not...

Re: Loss of a TX Aviator
Yet another very sad report. I can't imagine what could have happened that would be this catastrophic. Thats why we have investigators I guess. It does point out the fact that the ELT's on 121.5 are less effective than they once would have been OR this particular one had an issue.

A model elevator balance
Since the A model does not have a counter balance on the elevator, is there a requirement to balance after painting? The SB shows "None Specified" in the column for weight on both elevators, The B model shows a weight value.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the association Elijah. Your 170 is as close to my sister ship as I have seen. Apparently, coming off the line right behind 53C. You will spend lots of time here looking for answers AND finding them.
Welcome aboard.

Re: Strobe Question
If it were mine I would bite the bullet and replace it with the same type or an approved replacement. I replaced an inop Whelen HRCFA with a 90520 LED. The light isn't a strobe, it flashes and it is absolutely the brightest anti-collision light I have ever seen. You can't look it when it flashes. ht...
