Re: 180HP 170B vs C180

From what I understand, Air Repair does not manufacture new L-19s but rather does an incredibly extensive repair of an existing data plate. Thats how the warbird folks do it. They have a drawer full of legal data plates and 'repair' one when someone comes along with enough money. Although that is d...

Re: Weighing my 170B Couple Questions

Also if you are doing weight and balance for informational purposes that’s one thing but if you are doing it officially, caution it may cut down your useful load. Over time accumulation occurs in these planes and reweighing the aircraft usually yields heavier. Once it is officially done, it is to la...

Re: Weighing my 170B Couple Questions

Hi Doug, thanks for taking time to explain. I know about the oil not being part of the empty weight. I guess my question would be is simply subtracting the oil weight mathematically "good enough" and deemed acceptable? Obviously, if I drained it, there would be some amount of oil left in ...

Re: Weighing my 170B Couple Questions

Hi guys, I am planning on weighing my plane this Saturday so I am getting all my information together. I read through the FAA handbook to brush up and have been looking through others W&B sheets. I had a couple questions that I think I know the answer to but want a sanity check. Question 1 I sh...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear

Old thread; however I’m doing the PPonk mod on my 48 now. I removed the right leg and noted there was one washer under the leg (to raise the right wing). What are the maximum amount of washers allowed under the leg at the top position. Without any washers the PPonk brackets are way to tight Hey Dav...

Re: TCM IO-360 posts

Jim, I am guilty of looking at it frequently as well. I am in the process of converting 13D with a G model IO-360. I have everything for it. Incredibly useful as I wish I could document as well as you do. Thanks for your hard work. Doug

Re: Spark Plug Question

If you put the lube on the second thread instead of the end you wont have that problem either.

Re: Spark Plug Question

Although that is possible that thread lube grounded the plug, cleaning them will often remove that part of the equation. The problem with plugs is that they are fickle. You dont know the history of the new plug. For example, just because they are new it does not mean they were not dropped and the in...

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Failure

What is the criteria for replacing the original U Joint? What can be done to prevent original from wearing out? Grady the criteria is discretion. If you have any fwd or aft movement in the yoke when you hold the other, the universal should be replaced. usually it is only the left side that wears ou...

Re: Sudden roughness during cruise

When you messed with the carburetor heat. Did you leave it on and lean the engine out? Have you done maintenance on it before this occurred? There is to many recommendations to go after things. Can you repeat the problem?
