Re: Instrument Panel

The aluminum that Vans supplies for instrument panels is 2024-T3 with a thickness of .063".
This place is a lot cheaper than Spruce and will do custom sizes.

Re: 1948 Vertical Stabilizer wrenching bolts

With everyone's input the part number of the wrenching bolts for the vertical stabilize in the 1948 IPC has been superceded. NAS145-14 and -18 are now MS20005-5 and -9. I sourced these bolts from Genuine Aircraft Hardware Co. out of Billings, MT. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated. Mike Just...

Re: 1948 Vertical Stabilizer wrenching bolts

After rechecking with Genuine Aircraft Hardware they show the NAS145-14 has been superseded by MS20005-5 - neither of which they seem to have in stock. You may want to call them to see if they can get them.

They have NAS145-14 listed but you have to dig thru the list to find it.

Using the VSI will show you minimum sink speed, not best glide speed which is going to be faster.

Re: Best Glide

Have not seen any number for the 170 but the 172 has a roughly 8:1 glide ratio. The 170 may be slightly better without a nose gear. Definitely not a sailplane.

Re: Leaking Generator Seal

Reece, from the photos above it looks like you have the fiber gasket on you oil filter adaptor, you may want to change it at your next oil change per the service bulletin.

Re: Airplane Flight Manual

Although faded, you can see my oil pressure gage had red lines at 5 and 50 psi. Now they are a light pink. Doug, mine looks about like yours, and has since I bought the airplane in 1982. When I overhauled the engine in 2006, with a new spring for the oil pressure relief valve and new bearings, the ...
