Re: climb prop question
-You write, “the plane has the original 6 bolt flange O-300.” But then, in your next entry, say you have an O-300-A (which has an 8-bolt flange). Your ‘56 originally came with an 8 bolt O-300A or O-300B. Our Association has SA7441SW which authorizes the use of the O-300C or O-300D on your plane. Whi...

Re: Ingress Step Usage
LHorn, Welcome to the forum. As you’re probably aware Bill Berle now owns the Fravel conversion STC. Assuming the Favel STC calls for the installation of steps p/n 0711006-1 and 071106-2, you can install the F. Atlee Dodge cabin steps with only a logbook entry. They are direct replacement parts with...

Re: Mystery Plane
Pete,
That was quick! I’m impressed. I’d never heard of this plane. Rather humorous that “KLM purchased a Y-1 (PH-APY) for use in training their pilots in tricycle undercarriage.” Instead of a tailwheel endorsement, apparently their pilots needed a tricycle endorsement.

Re: Mystery Plane
The possible discovery of Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Electra has been in the news lately. Here's one example from the BBC. So who knows what aircraft she is pictured with in their photo?

Re: RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll
According to this entry that is how McCauley recommends doing it. I don’t find that information directly from McCauley now but it looks like MT-Propeller has identical instructions:Bruce Fenstermacher wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 10:03 amWhy not make a check into the wind and then repeat tail into the wind and average the result.

Re: RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll
... I always face into the wind. ... Bruce, That's cheating! You're going to get a higher static RPM than "normal" by facing into the wind. Here's how Cessna says to do it in the C-172R 1996 and On Service Manual: B. Static Run-Up Procedures. (1) Align airplane 90 degrees to the rig...

Re: Corrosion on Crankshaft
I haven't seen any criteria for the maximum allowable corrosion/pitting on the crankshaft flange itself. See this thread for information on corrosion between the flange and the oil seal. Where does the flange begin? At the O.D. of the crank-flange radius or at the I.D.?

Re: Fuel Flow transducer installation
Varel, I wouldn't be too concerned about stress on the fuel lines -- the transducer only weighs 5.3 oz. I believe they call for supporting the transducer by using an adel clamp on the fuel line because this attenuates the vibration to the transducer. Their instructions for hard mounting the transduc...

Re: Primer Knob Spins
Glad to help. Let us know how you repair this Doug. To prevent the knob from spinning, it seems it would have been a better design if the knob was pressed on a shaft with a square cross section.

Re: Primer Knob Spins
Doug, Here’s a couple of pictures of the primer plunger disassembled. Click on photos to enlarge them. IMG_0675.jpeg IMG_0676.jpeg The primer I bought online apparently suffered the same fate yours did. Someone tried gluing and then drilling a hole for a roll pin to keep the knob from spinning. Note...

Re: $170 Leaf Spring Bushing
Yeah, for me it seems the price of the replacement part in inversely proportional to the necessity of its replacement. :) My 0510000-36 bushing measures 0.372” ID X 0.619” OD X 1.353” long. This 3” steel or this 2” stainless bushing might be worth considering for an owner-produced part. This L-19 bu...

Re: carburetor problems
My previous response was assuming there was insufficient flow from the discharge nozzle. The 100 Series Service manual, in the troubleshooting guide on pg. 12-4, gives three possibilities for “Engine Does Not Accelerate Properly” 1. Idle mixture set too lean 2. Defective or badly adjusted accelerati...

Are you saying that the FAA doesn't have record of the Sportsman STOL kit being installed? You have checked here, right? How to see Aircraft Records, Mantenance, Registration and so much more, FREE and instantly If there is no record of the STC in the files but it is documented in the airframe logbo...

Re: carburetor problems
If there is no fuel coming out the pump discharge tube, the first thing I would check is the pump inlet screen, p/n 95-54. The associated gasket is p/n 16-A16. If that is clean, I would then check the pump inlet check valve (p/n 36-525) and the pump discharge check valve (p/n 36-540). The associated...

Re: Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket
How would you sheetmetal gurus drill the holes in this fitting? It's obviously critical that the holes be accurately drilled. No room for a strap duplicator. As this fitting sandwiches the skin, the holes can't be backdrilled. The only way I see is to make a jig using the removed fitting to accurate...
