Re: Let the spending begin!

About the I'll fitting windows. Mine seem to be just a bit too large for the openings and the rivets scrape the bottom of the window opening in the door. Anyone else have that problem or is it just me, as usual?

Re: Let the spending begin!

Got the latch assembly and new doorlock installed in the passenger side door today. What a pain! They must have had some sort of competition at the Wichita plant to see just how difficult and complicated they could make it and decided to build the door around these two components. I had to modify a ...

Hanlon Wilson

I have the opportunity to pick up a Hanlon Wilson exhaust system off of a '55 170B. Anyone know offhand if it's a direct bolt on for my '49 170A?

Re: Assist Straps

Found these on eBay last night anordered two pair. I figured I'd give them a shot for the price. Looks like they've made, or at lest sold by, Eckler's and the size appears to be acceptable. More will be revealed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111954839747?e=op&cnac=US&cal=87ac59279b87d&rsta=en...

Re: Door locks?

Thanks Bruce, I was reminded, after my post, of a local locksmith who's been in my area for a half century. Sounds like my kind of locksmith! Sure enough he had one almost identical to mine in stock that'll work with very minor modification. He told me he could rekey mine but the thing appeared to h...

Door locks?

Anyone know where I can get a door lock that'll work on the 170A? Aren't those things an absolute joy to remove?

Re: Mix exhaust systems?

Thanks Bruce, the problem I'm having is finding the riser with the bell or flange. There are lots of them out there with the flange welded to it. If I can find one I'll have it butt welded to my old riser.

Re: Mix exhaust systems?

After considerable searching I managed to locate a serviceable pancake type exhaust to replace the bad one (pictured) on my 170, almost. It's lacking the riser that inserts into the "Y" pipe. I've checked all the usual sources and can only find risers with the welded on flange. Does anyone...

Re: Low Compression

Why not lap the valve without removing the cylinder? I've done this numerous times with good results, depends a lot on how long it's been running with the valve leaking as the exhaust gasses will eventually erode the valve and/or seat. Had the same problem recently on mine on #5, brought the compres...
