Re: Removing sound insulation make inside louder in flight?

I didn’t notice a difference when I removed mine. There are a couple more reasons to remove it. It collects moisture, causing the corrosion Jim mentioned. Also, it attracts mice, even if the plane is stored in a hangar. I know both from personal experience. I never replaced my insulation with anythi...

Re: Primer O Rings

The part numbers of the O-rings themselves are MS29513-012 (70 Duro Nitrile /“fuel resistant” NBR); or NAS1593-012/M83248/1-012 (fluorocarbon synthetic rubber -”Viton”). MCM83248/1-012 is McFarlane’s part number for it's FAA-PMA Viton replacements, but as George pointed out, McFarlane also sells the...

Re: Tailwheel Main spring Replacement Question

No controversy intended here either George, just a discussion of the issue in the spirit of clarification. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with the result of any legal interpretation letter of the FAA, they are not mere opinions without legal weight. They are the legal interpretation by the FAA i...

Re: Tailwheel Main spring Replacement Question

George, I beg to differ that a task must be listed in Part 43, Appendix A, para.(c) to be preventive maintenance. The FAA has issued a legal interpretation that, despite the explicit language of para. (c), the list is not "all inclusive." See the interpretation attached to this thread: htt...

Unfortunately, the Hangar Cafe in Rutland (KRUT) closed in August. A victim of COVID. Two others in this thread that are no longer open: The cafe and bakery at Johnstown, NY, Fulton County Airport (NY0). Closed about 4-5 years ago. The very popular cafe/diner at Glens Falls, NY, Bennett Memorial (KG...

My previous Concord RG-25 also lasted 8 years. Never had an issue with it. I replaced it with another Concord RG-25.

Re: Rusty Water in fuel tank?

As per the additional drain valve, do you mean one on the belly of my aircraft below my fuel selector? I have a drain below my engine I check for water before every flight, but I think this may be called a gascolator? Yes, put one on the belly at the bottom of your fuel selector. This would be a dr...

Re: Fuel Dipstick Not Accurate?

Make sure you get the Fuelhawk C-172/19 gal dipstick (not the 26.5 gal one), and then cut the bottom off at the zero mark. A/C Spruce also sells another clear tube fuel dipstick labeled "Direct Fuel Indicator C-170/172." Despite its label, that is NOT the one you want for this.

I'm not sure how I missed it when looking in the MX Library. It's marked plain as day. Thanks Gary for pointing Phil (and me) in the right direction.

Re: SID Inspections

Phil, I have an electronic (PDF) copy of the manual I think you are looking for: Cessna MODELS 120/140/170/190/195 Supplemental Inspection Document. No document/manual number on it, but it's dated Aug 1/2012. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in our MX Library and the file is too big for me to u...

Re: L-19 Parts Manual

I have a PDF copy of the L-19/O-1 parts manual (in multiple files), along with a copy of the maintenance manual (again in multiple files). Bruce kindly uploaded them to the MX Library for me yesterday. These are the original format Army manuals, preserved for our use.

Ed Urbanowski of Urban Aviation at Sterling, MA (3B3). He has tons of experience with Cessna's and he was my IA when I was based there. He did the pre-buy on my '52 C-170B and my annual inspections. He's a great tailwheel instructor to boot.
