I have so, so much to learn. :(

So I am guessing it's normal for the altimeter to be tied into that device? I can't be 100% certain but it looked to me like it went straight from the encoder to the altimeter and then to the VSI.

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

So I ran over and took a look under the dash and the tubing running from the altimeter loops around and connects to this. I have not idea what this is. Now remember right now the altimeter is not hooked to anything but when it was hooked up it ran from the VSI to the Altimeter and then to this box. ...

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

Another note, check to make sure no lines are crossing and connecting lines to the altimeter that might inject vibration. John John, I have looked the best I can but there doesn't appear to be anything touching up close to the instrument. Now are there any lines crossing or touching 16 inches from ...

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

There is no yellow tag but there is as Richard mentioned a 8130-3 form (Airworthiness Approval Tag) that states that "Item 2 was overhauled in accordance with the component maintenance manual TM5934 Rev 01/09 complies with approved specifications".

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

Doug, I won't be back in town until late tonight to check my paperwork but don't recall seeing a yellow tag with it. as for the air filter, not sure there is a way to word this without sounding unlearned but I don't know about this air filter thing. What am I looking for there? Is it enclosed in som...

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

Try another altimeter? :?: I have already tried two rebuilt altimeters with the same result. It sounds like a vibration migrating into the gauge from somewhere. John It seems more and more like that could be the issue. Is there no other instruments that would be affected by the vibration. The repai...

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

I apologize guys for my slow response. I'm on a computer 5 days a week for work so I try to stay away from it on the weekends. Richard, Your suggestion is the first thing the instrument repair place suggested. Ed, Your suggestion was the second thing the repair place suggested I do. So after talking...

Re: Altimeter Bounce Issues

Ice pick in hand and in route. (not really) :D

I never thought of that as I do remember on my 1980 model 152 that it was raised. It took me several attempts to locate the port on the 170 after I first got it, I keep looking for the raised part.

Thanks for your input David.

Altimeter Bounce Issues

I had never noticed my altimeter bouncing as much as it did on my next flight after my annual inspection. I was headed for my BFR, during my BFR flight my instructor also notice there was about a 100 ft. bounce either side of the mark. No really knowing what to do I sent the instrument off for inspe...

Re: 26 inch Goodyears, Want Field Approval

Gary, Thanks again for the valuable information. As for how bad do I need them....hmmm, 99% of the time I don't need them, so it's not really a need issue it's a want issue. Like a lot of things for that we put on our planes. Did we really need that, probably not. If I had to go out and buy them I w...

Re: 26 inch Goodyears, Want Field Approval

As ABI already has an STC for 26" tires it would be a lot easier to get the paperwork from them to make your installation legal than going the field approval route. Their STC does require heavy duty brakes. Give Airframes Alaska a call for further details. Gary, Thank you for you reply but I a...

26 inch Goodyears, Want Field Approval

First of all I have tried to search on this and found some info posted by Francis Cahoon in one of my previous threads but have been unable get a response from that user related to the paperwork related to the field approval received. Has anyone else received a field approval for these tires? Any ad...

Re: Prop Survey

On the off chance that I find a bag of unclaimed money can someone give me an idea of how much the 80/42 prop would set me back?
