Re: Push to talk ideas

Here is my installation that did not modify the yoke at all and includes no velcro. Just a piece of aluminum with a hole drilled in it and bent 90°, attached with an Adel clamp. Actually there are two clamps: One to hold the wire coil to prevent breakage at the switch from flexing, and the other to ...

Re: More Tail Wheel Questions

The easy way to do this is to spend .25¢ at an auto parts place on a plastic valve stem extender and screw it on when filling the tailwheel tire. It makes getting the air chuck on much easier. When you're done, just put it in the glove box for the next time you need it. This is exactly what I've do...

Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

My solution. A little pvc pipe, foam insulation for protection and a bungee cord. Where do you store those long things? My hangar mate told me about that sort of setup, but they look so much more bulky than the ropes when not being used. I just wad mine up and toss 'em under the bench seat. Install...

Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

I ended up fabricating some brackets that attach to the horizontal, through which the rope is routed to (instead of the bungee cord hooks). Nothing too fancy, just some bent and cut up scrap sheet metal painted bright red to help with visibility. Also glued some extra art foam I had laying around to...

Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

I took the vinyl-coated hooks off a bungee cord, and threaded some braided polypropylene rope thru them...Another short piece of the rope is inserted in the mid-point forming a small "bra", so that... a hook is placed into each end of the horiz stabilizer. http://i192.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: O-300 Bent Cranks

Thanks for the responses; they all seem to support the red flag that went up when he told me that. I think I'll double-check to make sure I understood the gentleman as this is a widely-advertised repair station and been in business over 30 years. I doubt you stay in business that long by failing cra...

O-300 Bent Cranks

I visited a local repair station that specializes in reciprocating engine component inspection and repair to discuss their services applicable to the TCM O-300A engine. I received the nickel tour of their facility, which was intereting enough. One thing the host told me was that they find that (in h...

Re: SEB07-5AR5

Frank, did you advise both FAA and Cessna of your new address when you moved? Can't speak for their processes now, but Cessna used to update their databases nightly from the FAA (I suspect they still do). Therein may be the rub as to why the letter was mailed to Frank's old address...gove...

Re: Approved Data

Going strictly from memory ( 8O ) and without service manual and/or structural repair manual part numbers, but I did not recall any service manuals for 170/172 (well, all of single engine piston Cessnas) being "approved." I know they are the "manufacturer's recommendation" but do...

Re: Elevator rigging

I put these cables in about 4 years ago as part of the rebuild but can't not remember which cable goes where . There is a longer cable and is that the top cable ? So can anybody give us a couple of ideas the position of the cables and which cable sits on which pulley down at the rear of the cargo c...

Re: What's the difference?

There are two lessons I've learned from working on planes. 1) Don't think you have the right parts installed after all there have been many annuals accomplished 8O 2) Always tag your parts at the moment they are removed using your parts book for proper numbers. :D (Take pictures!) Having helpers wi...

Re: Oil Pressure Guidance

I do not know the oil being used as I just purchased this plane in late August and an oil change is currently due. If the engine oil is 100W, and you're starting on a cold day, that would help explain the slow response. I believe the Owner's Manual would say use 80W for cooler weather. I use Philli...

Re: New Years Eve Fun

Pretty neat Josh, are those deer trained to look for airplanes before crossing the runway? :D Actually, they are trained to mark the landing spot! The runway slopes up right to where they are then levels out, so I aim for them when landing! It's the Canada Geese that think they have the right...
