Lessons Learned

Bruce, thanks for the link to the form, never thought about Googling it. After studying the form I have learned another interesting lesson which I will pass along to anyone else for future reference. While staying at the Ramada, next to the Sandman, I frequented the restaurant several times and the ...

GST TAX

Doing a little bookeeping this morning. I didn't really spend that much, did I? I vaguely recall someone saying something, in Kelowna, about filling out a form and having your GST tax refunded to you. Could anyone elaborate on this? Is there a form one needs to fill out? If so, can anyone post a cop...

Folding Bike

I've got two Montague folding bikes. One is an older model and one is a newer model. The newer model is a little bit easier to assemble and disassemble. I think they're great. I leave the backseat out of my 170 and leave one bike in it most of the time. The other I leave in the hangar for riding aro...

George, I dropped off the instrument at the local Cessna shop. They were going to do a pitot/static test on it but their machine wasn't functioning correctly so I asked them to "send it out" When I picked it up, they told me it was fine. I called just now to see where they sent it. I could...

Gentlemen, a year ago I had a problem with my ASI. I posted here and got a lot of ideas and support. Unfortunately I never solved the problem. For reasons I won't bore you all with I sort of just quit worrying about it. Here I am a year later and I have been working on the same problem again with a ...

There was an article in the Third Quarter of 2004 170 News, I think it was a reprint, about installing a 160 horse IO-320-B1A in a 170. The author goes on quite a bit about the increased speed but doesn't say much about climb. Personally I can live with 120 MPH but when I have a someone in the passe...

GPS Garmin 95XL

I've got a Garmin 95XL GPS that came with my airplane. Not sure how old the data is in it. Probably about 10 years old. Garmin quit providing updated data for it in 2003. Still in all, I thought for $35 I'd bring the data up to 2003. In order to download the data I need a $38.00 PC interface/databas...

OK, anyone, I did the test with the little piece of surgical tubing. I rolled it so it registered about 100MPH on the ASI. It bled off but very very slowly, maybe 10 MPH in 5 minutes. I was told correctly, it didn't take much rolling at all to get up to 100. Somehow I was hoping that when I did this ...

Well, I mortgaged my house today and bought a couple of feet of rubber hose that looks about the right size. I didn't get out to the airport because I had a work related issue to deal with. Don't you just hate when that happens? For those of you that were kind enough to ask, I am in Redding, Ca. KRD...

Cessna Service Manual

This may be my first chance to do one or two of you a good turn. It was suggested to me by one of you that I might want to invest in a Cessna Service Manual pre 1962. I looked on e-bay and found 5 of them priced at $35. I have purchased one but there are still four left. Perhaps some of the rest of ...

Well, thanks for the kind welcomes. I dug around in a box of junk that came with the plane when I got it and found what I believe may be an Illustrated Parts Catalog. I didn't see a Cessna Service Manual but I'll start casting about for one. The other two items you mentioned should be pretty easy to...

Johneb, thanks for the kind welcome. About the pitot static check, is that something I need a mechanic to do or is it just some simple device I can maybe borrow or buy and do myself? Another question, you used the term pitot static insturments (plural). Are thier other instruments that use pitot air...
