Re: Help I messed up!
Thanks everyone. I drained the ATF; flushed with mineral spirits till clear; flushed with 5606 and took everything apart. Cleaned everything with mineral spirits and installed new O rings and gaskets. Put it back together under supervision and refilled with brand new 5606. Everything works great and...

Help I messed up!
I ordered a brake bleeder kit from Spruce and when it came I just assumed I got what I needed. For some reason I ordered and received a Hegar Brake Bleeder kit. It uses Chevron ATF fluid! Looked red to me so I bleed my brakes. Yep you guessed right. ATF fluid all over the place. O rings murdered by ...

Tach seal removal
Other than purchasing the $280 tool from Spruce, has anyone removed the tach seal from the housing? My O-300s never ending oil leak was finally traced to a worn tach seal. My original housing was also damaged so I purchased a salvage tach seal housing from E-Bay and guess what it came with a visibly...

Glide Ratio
Has anyone found or been able to calculate the 170 glide ratio? I fly a stock "49A, with a metal prop and was looking to take advantage of the new ForeFligt tool for max glide. Our own owners manual and google were not much help. The forums seem to bounce all over with discussions of STOL kits ...

Rudder Trim
Am looking for advice how to adjust the rudder trim tab. Noticed lately I've got about half a ball deflection to the left and when I looked at the tab it is noticebly running left. So I need to recenter or possibly slightly right. Anyway, we are considering clamping something like a 15-16 inch board...

Re: ADS-B
$5-7000 may just be the death to many of us with older aircraft or we will become experts at avoiding controlled airspace.

ADS-B
Has anyone given any thought to ADS-B out compliance for our 170s?

Mini tachometer
Any experience with a mini tachometer, mechanical or electronic? I want to add a DG to my panel and have an empty hole in my '49 A model, perfect for a mini tach. My thought is ditch the full size tach, move some things around, add an electric DG and put the mini tach in the remaining 2 1/4 hole. Th...

It only took 62 years; the hollow tube frame for the original rear seat finally broke! So... * looking for salvage (tried the usual commercial outlets) so we can just cut out the damaged sections and weld the salvage in place. *or, advice on how best to accomplish the repair so all 4 attach points a...

Re: painted in screws
Thanks ya'll. Will take a look at the Avery tool and the much less costly brass pipe idea. The paint came out pretty well. There is a picture in the latest 170 News. It was used as a backdrop for an add campaign.

painted in screws
Have a few "painted in/over screws" from a recent paint job. The shop is too far away for a casual drop by, so wondered if anyone has a technique for the removal without messing up the new surrounding paint. The local advice I've gotten was to cut around the screw head with an Exacto knife...

Re: Mogas and a "no fly" winter
...and yet another fuel question. A friend at 55J in NE Florida has to defuel his Baron and has almost 100 gals of 100LL available. The fuel has been on board almost 14 months following a ground engine fire. The Baron has remained in his hangar. Assuming we first sump his tanks and filter the fuel a...

Re: Tailwheel rebuild
Spoke with the guys in OR, they are very nice by the way. They suggested when my Scott 3200 TW is rebuilt I upgrade it to the 3224A. Understand it is a direct replacement for the 3200 with better seals and a beefier steering arm. Any thoughts? They also felt a lot of tailwheel shimmy is caused by wo...
