Re: 0 360 engine to mount torque setting
I just replaced my J3804-28 Lord Mounts that have been back ordered for three months. The usual suppliers could not get them and I finally got them through Aviall which is now a Boeing company that is not really user friendly. They are now about $325 each including tax. They seem to last about twent...

Re: MT propeller for O360-A1A
Thanks so much. Why didn’t I do this 10 years ago? Which one do you have? The three blade looks particularly cool.

MT propeller for O360-A1A
I don’t see this option on the MT propellers STC page although I do see that at least one member has done it. I am looking for options for the 100hr. Eddy current inspection on my Hartzel.

Re: Ground strap fabrication
I never realized my engine wasn’t properly grounded until smoke came wafting up from the throttle cable or maybe it was the carb heat cable while I was starting the engine. The starter was always troublesome as it was having a hard time with only an incidental ground here and there. Everything works...

Re: Bolts
Thank you so much! I especially like the service manual download. Clear concise and prompt. I have the washers so no more hurdles. You did me a great service. Remember when Service Manuals were only available from Mfgs. and were very expensive. I do.

Re: Bolts
I have the tail off and new bolts, the post says the proper torque is important. What ft or inch pounds might that be? I don’t have a service manual. I might be able to just reference the torque for a standard 5/16 AN bolt or I could ask around. Any ideas?

You are almost there. Just get rid of that vacuum pump and go all electric.

Re: Long Pawl vs Short Pawl on ABW 3200 TW
I tried the short arms and they were not sturdy enough. Somehow my 170 has a L-19 Rudder horn that provides a little more leverage and it was too much for the short tailwheel arms. The bent up arms have a lot more material and can take more torque. Either way the airplane really depends on brakes, i...

Re: Strobe lights again
Think I got it. Bad ground at the power supply. Those little amp connecter plugs where the power comes in from the switch is the number 1 pin the number 2 pin is the ground. Corrosion on that pin was not cleaned when the power supply was replaced. The wing tips with less energy and further proximity...

Re: Strobe lights again
Thanks Frank, good to hear from you. I hope Tennessee is doing you right. I suspect the solution will be simple when we see it. My brother gave me some thick electricians tape that I put around the base of the Flash tube Assy. and that seemed to work but now it's not. Still open to suggestions and i...

Strobe lights again
I just replaced my Whelen 3 light strobe power supply HDA-CF. The Wingtip strobes work fine. The belly has a new flash tube A469A and is intermittent at best. When it should be firing I can hear a faint clicking like its arcing to ground. In fact I have seen it arcing to ground from the plastic base...

Re: Eliminating fuel pumps
Mine has been working fine for years at all attitudes and altitudes. Winter and Summer and towing a glider over and over on the hottest of days. I changed the fuel line from the fuel selector all the way to the Carb including a new gascolator. The Alaskan paperwork inspired me and I don't miss my fu...

Re: Current and Past DC-3 Pilots ,here ?
The Volpar part may have been the nosewheel and the stretch fuselage, it did have Garret's I think it was called a HA-1' it did not have a Pinocchio nose. The Dove was even weirder, it was called a CJ60 for Carstedt Jet and it had Garret's as well. There was a regular twin beach also. It was fun. Do...

Re: Current and Past DC-3 Pilots ,here ?
I paid my dues in the mid to late seventies flying DC3s at a couple of freight airlines. Started out at Tri-Con airlines at DFW that morphed into SMB stage lines. Most of my experience was with Falcon Airways out of Addison, Tx. Falcon had a very odd mix of airplanes like a Hamilton Volpar turbine t...

Re: Rosen Sun Visors
You do have to mount them contrary to the instructions. Like everyone says if you mount them per instructions they will be unnaturally close to your face. I talked to the people at Rosen about this and they said "well no one has ever complained". While I was waiting for a call back from so...
