Re: Reklaw 2010
Hi Gregg, I am planning on attending Reklaw. The path there is a little convoluted though. Leaving Spencer MA 60M Wednesday Sep 20 for Lee Bottom IN 64I flyin 23-25 then going to Lancaster TX (LNC), it is on the DART system, and taking Southwest from DAL to Florida for a family reunion. Going home S...

Re: Edwards Fly In
I was fortunate enough to take the Edwards tour this spring. It was a lot of fun and got to see a lot of the facility. At the time it was given on the first and third Friday of the month. The website now mentions only once a month but if you read further under the museum it again mentions twice a mo...

Re: When Are you Going to OSH
W. I think Saturday is easier than Sunday as there is a little less traffic in the morning. I suggest you read the notam and try to get in before the mass arrivals. Some of the type clubs tie up the airspace and cause holding to be done until they all get in. The notam gives their times of arrival s...

Re: IFR 170b
There are plenty of good IFR instructors around if you look hard enough. Many are free lance and only take a few students in their spare time. You really want to look for someone who flies IFR for a living and does a little moonlighting on the side. The experience of these people in the system is so...

Re: water crossing
Joel, I did forget about the visibility over the lake. We usually cross at 9500 and can see one shore or the other for about two thirds of the trip. Have seen the opposite shore within a short time on a real clear day but Bill k is absolutely correct - you will be on instruments for about half the t...

Re: water crossing
These are strictly my thoughts on Lake Michigan: I fly over western Massachusetts, Maine, and Pennsylvania and they are covered with endless woods. I have not been there but looking down from the airlines over much of the west there is a lot of inhospitable desert, mountains, and generally bad terra...

Re: 170A panel light wiring
Bruce, Went over and checked my plane today. I don’t know if this is the original rheostat or one of many replacements but: The rheostat is active as soon as the master switch is on. It is not influenced by the nav light switch only the master. It has a separate fuse from the nav lights and from t...

Re: Lower Cowl Lip size
Bruce, I have an early 170B serial # 20505 and it has the 3/4 inch lip. It also has cool oil temps even in summer. I have the Cessna winterization plate to put over the oil cooling inlet and it says on the front remove above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is ok to 60 instead of 40 or so I think this t...

Re: window seal/gasket
The last time this was discussed I took Georges suggestion and went to Brown and company and got the "P" shaped seals. I had the flat sticky back foam on the windows and over time it started to seporate and then the wind got at it while taxing. I found the "P" shaped seals to be ...

Thanks Miles - better than no picture at all.
Can see the mated ships. Will be watching for news. Any idea when they hope to make their first high altitude flight?

Re: Dial Ups Beware: Arthur Godfrey & the Constellation
A local pilots group went to Auburn-Lewiston ME to see a Connie being restored. Here is the email disclaimer sent out and the link to an article and video about the restoration. "Here’s a nice documentation of what we toured on Saturday when eight airplanes from KFIT (and one or two from KASH...

Re: Rat Plane Repair and Insurance -update
Bruce,
It's a real painful decision but you will be flying a lot sooner this way. You never know - someday you may buy a salvage part and wind up with a part of 9149A in you new plane.
Good luck in your search!!!!
