I have been following this thread with some interest as well. I have had the opportunity to look at a couple O-1's in the recent past and even worked on one in the US ARMY trade school at fort Eustis Virginia Airframe school back in 1971 before going to Viet-Nam. The instructors used to punch holes ...

The following may not answer anyone’s questions but might inform others that are reading this. It is my cent & half worth Engine RPM vs. Prop Pitch. In my seminar discussion on propellers and constant speed propellers I use the comparison to an automobile transmission and gearing. Like this: W...

Door springs

Thanks for all of the information. And Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all. My partner in the 170A has a 140A. I talked to him yesterday he said that one of his 140 buddies had given him several new homemade springs. That he had them somewhere and as suggested here he thought they are simila...

Re: General Plane/Plain STOL/Floatplane Talk

Are there members out there who can comment on past experiences(any aircraft type) with different STOL kits (Horton, Robertson, Sportsman, etc.) that are available out there. I've received numerous comments on all kits during hanger talk and their positive or negative aspects including installation...

******************************** the copy I have of this document is pretty poor - I got it several years ago off a microfische. If anybody can find a legible version of it on a CD or TCMLink I'd sure appreciate a copy / file. paul[/quote] Thanks this is what I needed. I just received 3 copies of th...

Jim, I went to tailwheel.com and looked at the re-build photos of your 170A...Do you have any thoughts on cutting in an inspection hole??? It seem like a good idea and I have the 337 written by Tom Hall, but the local FSDO has not been encouraging; DER, paperwork...etc. BC I do not like the idea of...

To update everyone who has contributed to the reopair....We have a plan to remove the tail (as suggested) and replace the elevator brackets (new left from Cessna and salvaged right from Aircraft Specialities) over the New Year's Holiday....Not withstanding any complications, we'll be flying in two ...

What I meant by profile was the Airfoil design of the strut itself. It looks like a very simple symmetrical airfoil with a rounded off trailing edge (which is because of it being an extrusion) I appreciate any help. Ben :?: Then what you want are the ordinates. Such as NASA ordinates for the profil...

Ok, that annual from he!! is finally done. I test flew the airplane and the suction gauge is reading 7 inches in flight! I now am wondering if I need a regulator. I also wonder if too much suction is a bad thing for the instruments. Dave You might want have your suction gauge tested. I have found m...

Re: brake disc thickness

I have a p/n 199-62 (double-puck) Cleveland W&B kit on my ragwing, installed about 17 years ago. The brake discs are badly scored/grooved. Repacking the wheel bearings as part of the pre-annual inspection maintenance, I just noticed that the brake pads are almost gone after only about 175 hours...

I have a surplus new L/H as well. I didn't think that Cessna made them anymore. Making one side and not the other could drive a guy nuts. Tell me about it. I just finished rebuilding the main gearbox on my aircraft and had to replace both steel doublers on the left gearbox. Cessna had the front lef...

Re: Cracked Elevator Bellcrank Bracket P/N's 0510142 & 0

During the Annual Inspection of N1341D ('51,170A, S/N 19917), I found both elevator bellcrank brackets had split between the top three rivets that attach to the bulkhead. Is there a repair kit available and, if not, any suggestions for the repair :?: I have the same two brackets out of my airplane....

Wing Twist, Polishing Aluminum and the Disease

I have purchased the 1953 to 1962 maintenance manual series from McCurtain and the entire100 series. It covers 120 to 195 series airplanes up to the late 1970s some time. I purchased it because I perform maintenance on many of these airplanes. They do not have a manual that covers the 170 other than...

I really have to agree that having a little toe-out is much less exciting than having toe-in. When I first got my 52 B model with the floppy straight legs, I needed to say a prayer before every hard surface touchdown because it wanted to dart off one side or another. I had huge positive camber and ...
