Re: Alternator STC
I'm on my third generator in three years. What a piece of garbage. I'll be upgrading to an alternator next time it fails. I have a 20amp Delco Remy generator. It ALWAYS leaks. I've had one fail completely, and the second generators drive draft stripped after only 20 hours rendering it useless. Righ...

Re: Wing root fairing stripped hole repair
Dave, Thank you for the photo. That is what I was afraid of. Inaccessible tinnerman nuts. Looks like I will have to remove the tanks. Yep, did mine a few years ago, hardest part is removing all the screws in the tank cover. Sometimes have to use a Dremel tool to cut a slot in the Phillips head scre...

Re: Throttle Cable Interference
Sorry for the thread resurrection. I’m finally getting around to installing a glovebox back in 56D and would like some more information on the 0413116-5 bracket that Bruce mentioned above. It seems like an easy enough part to fabricate…just some dimensions and I’ll be good to go. Can anyone help? T...

Re: Axle question.. 52 170B
Hollow steel axles vs solid Aluminum ? I'm going to take a WAG and guess the hollow steel is stronger than the solid Aluminum? I assumed my 170b had hollow aluminum & I bought some used solid aluminum axles. After getting 1 side apart I realized my axles are hollow steel... With 4 small bolts. ...

Re: Outer Windshield Center Strip
Doug, it is very difficult, maybe impossible, to find a shop and/or person with the tools and knowledge to spot weld anything let alone the material of that strap. So I'd say yours is not a repair. And I doubt you'll be able to have it repaired by spot welding. I would make a new top piece and flus...

Re: Where were you on 9-11-2001?
I was working at Wolf Creek nuclear plant, Burlington KS that morning and just happened to look out the window at the beautiful, clear blue sky. I saw a bunch of aircraft contrails going in circles. I thought, that sure is unusual….then someone yelled , “Hey come and look at what’s on TV”. The rest ...

Re: Where were you on 9-11-2001?
On the morning of 9/11 I was the single pilot in a chartered helicopter over Red Bank NJ flying my passengers into West 30th St helipad on the Hudson River. If was a gorgeous day. The owner of the helicopter happened to be on board and he and I were discussion his next aircraft purchase. At some po...

Re: Windshield Mount Broken?
We are looking at two parts. That base at the very top of the aluminum strip is a base for a antenna mast. Your are missing the mast. The mast is made from the same material as pulleys but who's name escapes me at the moment. The antenna was a long wire that probably exited your boot cowl in front ...

Re: Perfect end to the day
When we first moved onto Brighton Airport our neighbors’ son Deacon was just learning to walk. A couple of years later he came into the hangar while I was working on the170 and spent some time inspecting my RV-7 project. As he was leaving, he got my attention and informed me that I’d have to put th...

Re: Old Sectional Charts
I wish I had all the old sectionals and WAC charts I have bought over the last 51 years. But, then again, I normally used them until they literally fell apart at the seams so there was really no point in keeping them. I also have several 80's vintage Canadian charts including the Alaska highway cha...

Re: Old Sectional Charts
I have just about every chart ever acquired since soloing in 1958. I didn't get my ticket until 1968. The early charts were only printed with the chart on one side. The back side had almost enough information on it that if studied you could almost pass the PP exam. When planning for the Yellowknife ...

Since everyone appears to be splitting hairs on this, do any of these "dipsticks" have built in temperature compensation ???
