Re: WASPS
Wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets can be gotten rid of by using a piece of meat hung on a string just above a pan of soapy water. A paper plate or foil over the top to force them to fly low helped. Plain water will allow them to swim to the side and climb out. They will drown in the soapy water. Ha...

Re: Prop RPM Avoid Range Operation
Many years ago I talked to a fellow that did a lot of flying off the California coast looking for sharks or some other fish and he needed to operate in the restricted rpm range to get maximum fuel endurance. He looked onto the background of the restriction and found that possible problems could happ...

Re: Tires for awb 2500 skis
I used to run 700-6 tires with the skis. But many of years ago after seeing a lot of planes with 8.50-6 tires used with the AWB 2500s I figured how to change the rigging slightly and have been using the 8.50s since. If you take a little time and study your rigging and do a little experimenting you p...

Re: Cracked Tailwheel Fork
I was told yesterday that a local super cub hit a rock with the tail wheel and it cracked in the same place as yours did. You may have hit something without knowing it.

If you hinge the end of the battery box. The battery will slide in easy That is the way my Lycoming conversions are done. Keeps the cable length short.

Re: Generator trouble
Check your master switch. Part of it controls the field circuit to the generator. The brass contacts on these old switches get that old brass coating on them and don't make a good contact. There are some old posts somewhere on here about that.

Re: Stuck Door Latch
Many years ago I had the same problem of a latch over centering. Can't remember exactly what I did but drilled a hole and put a small # 4 or # 6 bolt or maybe it was a rivet in a place that became a hard stop for the latch so that it could not pass over center. If you take the latch out and study it...

If you mount the pump directly to the tunnel, you will get quite a bit of flexing of the tunnel. And yes it can take some muscle power sometimes. Mine is mounted to a plate attached to the floor and left side of the tunnel so that the pump is just above the tunnel and left of the flap handle between...

Re: Rudder Trim
Before doing any adjustments put the plane on a level surface and use a level to be sure the fuselage and wings are level right left. Then see if the ball is centered or not. If not then adjust the gauge as needed in its' mounting until it is. Then go fly and see where it is at. With the ball center...

Re: hauling a core engine
The frame is only 30" wide so it was cut in a straight spot where it could be bolted back together. Each peace on its' side fit in the plane, the body was cut behind the cab and in the bottom of the door behind the instrument panel and disassembled forward of the firewall. Also the back of the ...

Re: hauling a core engine
Hauling that load is not a problem because of the lack of weight. However if anyone should haul something like a auto engine then you should put a piece of plywood or heavy plastic down on the floor to spread out the load and have several 2x4 's to help spread the load. I use a piece of plastic from...

Re: Battery Location with Avcon 180hp conversion
With the battery box mounted on the firewall aft of the oil cooler behind the motor mount, pretty much in the original position on the later models. Cut the end of the box and add a piano hinge across the bottom. Makes access to the battery simple with the bottom cowling removed.

Re: Ignition switch ground
David Ross has it correct. The magnetos are and should be completely independent of the electrical system. All the P lead does is short the mag to itself through the switch. Cutting either of the wires to the switch gives you a hot mag that you cannot shut off. Many old planes did not have electrica...

Was a fellow coming up the coast a few months ago in a cub with a o360 Lycoming. He had a clear plastic hose going to the breather tube with a simple slit in the hose for the safety pressure release. He was flying at 9000 msl in freezing temperatures and blew out the nose crank seal and lost his oil...

Re: Scott 3200 Part number
If you are still getting the cool WX back east you could put the pin outside for a few minutes and keep the casting in where it is warm and the pin would probably drop right in the hole. Many years ago did that with the bearing race for the tail wheel, -40 outside and + 60 inside and had to keep the...
