Re: climb prop question
Have you contacted the owner of the STC for putting the 8042 prop on a 170? I think that is where I would start. Perhaps they can add a converted 172 such as yours, to their Approved Models List?

Re: O-340-A1A review & comments
In the Engine sectIon of the MX Library there are a couple of entries on the subject of the O-340 Lycoming conversion. One member has even sent in an electronic copy of the installation drawings, which I was not able to obtain anywhere else. So, as is most often the case, this organization proves to...

Re: O-340-A1A review & comments
My 1952 170B had the O-340 installed in accordance with the original Doyn STC in 1957. The specific Hartzell propeller that is part of the conversion is subject to a recurring inspection. As I understand the history, the O-340 was an evolution of the original Lycoming O-320 series engines. The devel...

Re: Rudder trim tab
Just a thought on the rudder trim question. I have seen instances where the tailwheel itself was not rigged to be perfectly aligned with the rudder when in flight. The tailwheel then becomes in effect, a trim tab of sorts. Easily checked with the tailwheel off the ground and the rudder centered. Rud...

Re: AV-30-C
I will be interested in your impression of the AV30 after you have flown with it for a bit. Also any thoughts on the installation difficulty, or ease. I'm considering one of these for a project plane of mine. Thanks.

Re: Skis on a Cessna 170
Before buying a set of skis for your 170, or any airplane for that matter, I would certainly recommend getting some experience with ski flying. Lots of variables involved, starting with the snow conditions on the proposed runway area. Whereas your typical maintained wheel plane runway will be in mor...

Re: The Turn Back to the Airport after engine Failure
The EAA had a good webinar on this subject last winter. It is probably still viewable on their website for those interested. Reinforcing what George and Pete have said is one simple fact, whatever else you do in an engine failure situation avoid stalling the airplane. Statistically there is a very h...

Re: 4th tank in a 1948 Ragwing
Josh If you got the outboard tank from the right side I think you would just have to have the fuel line connections welded on the opposite side of the tank to use it on the left outboard. Or get a left side tank from a 140 and have the filler neck removed and patched over. Some welding required eith...

Re: 4th tank in a 1948 Ragwing
Josh Going from memory I think the factory used what we're basically C140 tanks. 12.5 gallons each. Two tanks in the right wing and just one in the left. The outboard tank in the right side didn't have its own filler, but was plumbed into the inboard tank. The left tank you will need will go outboar...

I have a Brackett BA 5110 air filter assembly. Tell me where to send it and it is yours. $10 for postage ought to do it.
