Re: Electrical wiring problem
There is an old AD on Whelen strobe flash tubes which addresses the same issue. My plane had these old style flash tubes (pre-1974) when I refurbished it. There may still be some in the fleet. I also completely rewired my plane with modern wiring. Here's the AD for those interested. 75-05-04 WHELEN ...

Re: Something for Learaviator
We have a Lear 35 parked on our ramp which tried to tie the record several weeks ago. Both tip tanks scraped the runway on landing. One side bent the wing extension and came very close to jamming the aileron. A very fortunate couple of guys that morning.

Re: Richards "Rug"?
Dwayne, Speaking of Gulfstreams, here is the material used in the galley/lav/baggage and entry/airstairs of C-20 (Gulfstream III's) I was involved with a couple years ago. Wears very well. I have no idea what it cost, I just had to inspect the final installation of the interior refurbishments. The r...

Re: Ragwing Flap Control Question
Here are a couple pictures of my flap cable circuit in the overhead tunnel. I don't know if they are large enough to see anything but it is all turnbarrels with eye ends. http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/158/1000040op8.th.jpg http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/4617/1000004jd8.th.jpg Steve PS It ap...

Re: air compressor
My "portable" air compressor is an old cast iron one-lunger out of a commercial washing machine that used pneumatic control valves. I made a reservoir out of three inch PVC about one foot long. It takes about two minutes to build 100 PSI but is works fine for doing compression checks, airi...

Re: Cowling wear strips
On mine the strips are still present but they were bare aluminum. So I put fiber reinforced teflon tape made by 3M on the aft edges and regular hardware store siliconized weather striping on the fwd edges (due to the relatively large gap) of my cowl. I have only replaced one piece on the fwd left si...

I talked with the FAA ASI at the airport last Sunday. To paraphrase him, a pilot certificate is not adequate to alter the aircraft and recalculate the weight and balance.
Glad the website is back up.

Bruce, I did a little research on weight per square foot of grade A cotton and .020 alclad. Calculated the weight of paint/dope/primer less the VOC's as related to how much paint/primer I used to paint my wings. Measured my wings for area and then did the math. The margin of error can't be that grea...

Wt & Bal`
The FAA ASI was not at the airport today while I was there. Maybe next weekend. Based on options in the TCDS, the permanent removal of wheel pants, and replacing 6.00 tires with 8.00 tires would be minor alterations to me. A&P logbook entry along with a weight and balance update are all I would ...

Fuel
The ACO's engineer and I discussed the obvious error in the TCDS. It was his call to put it at 4.0 gallons. Which statement in the TCDS is actually in error (1. Gallons of unusable fuel in the "Fuel Capacity" section or 2. Weight of unusable fuel in Note 1.) neither he nor I knew. I suspec...
