Re: Financing vintage

I did the same thing as mentioned above, refinanced my truck for part of it, paid cash for the other 1/2. I too was concerned for any "surprises", but luckily didn't have any. I've since used some of the funds to add an Appareo ADS-B transponder (in and out), JPI fuel totalizer, and 8043 p...

Re: Prop STCs

I'm also running an 8043..

I got the STC from Wick Air, it was a tad cheaper than Kenmore and they were way more friendly. When I called Kenmore, it felt like I was bothering them.

I purchased my prop from Mike at Tiffin Aire in Ohio, cheapest place I could find.

Re: Finally...

Glad you found your bird, and she's a beauty for sure! You will enjoy the heck out of that in North Idaho and the PNW.

Re: C145 oil level

I agree with George, I put in 7 qts and add when its dips below 6 qts.. If I put in 8, it seems to come out the breather and finds its way to the belly.

Re: New to me 170B

I have many of the same mods on my 170, you will definitely like those.. All are good upgrades. I have the Petersen Mogas STC, so I run that most of the time.

This is going to be a great first plane for you! Congrats!

Re: Highest altitude you’ve ever had your 170?

I've been up to 11,500, it got there quicker than I thought. I was also up doing maneuvers for the FAA ADS-B rebate.

Re: High static RPM

Just an update, I borrowed a friends Tru Tach to make sure my tach is working correctly. It was spot on every time I checked it (idle, static run up, and at cruise in flight). So my tach is working correctly.. Still not sure why it goes to 2700 RPM during runup.. argh!

Air Filter

I am wanting to change my air filter. Can anyone help me identify this so I can order a replacement filter? It seems like its a solid one piece unit

This is on my 1950 170A, which I bought last August.

Re: Interior Door Handle

I literally just replaced one of mine about two weeks ago (1951 170A). This part fit perfectly and includes a new clip already installed inside the handle. Just pop your old one off and this pops in its place. https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/8940/Chevrolet_Door_Handle_Interior_Original_On_4048....

Re: High static RPM

I measured the prop, it is 74" as its supposed to be. I'll get my mechanic to check my tach and cable. Anything else I need to try?

Re: High static RPM

Yes, I agree with Bruce, the FIRST thing to do is verify your tachometer is accurate. Borrow your mechanic’s tach-check (or if unable, contact me and I’ll loan you mine for postage.) What George said! I have been using an 8040 for 30 years I fly with a Tach check on the glare shield all the times d...

Re: High static RPM

Thanks for the reply Jim, I ordered an 8043 prop, just haven't received it yet. The prop I have is a Sensenich MD74, It was a climb prop originally, the previous owner of my 170 had it repitched to a cruise prop. I took it to AC Propeller in Seattle and had them pitch it back to a climb prop. They d...
