Re: Midship Fairleads removal

Disregard! I gave up on getting lacerated. A needle nose pliers at the right angle will open the c-clip and the fairlead halves fall through the hole. SFSG at the back ones. However, access was impossible to the elevator cables passing through bulkhead (B in the picture) under the floor. A nice new ...

Midship Fairleads removal

Gents, Has anyone successfully removed the under-floor and midships fairleads for the rudder and elevator cables? There are 2 at the rear of the baggage area on the rudder cable and another under the floor between P1 and P2 seats shown as 43-4 right next to a fabulously inaccessible pulley! I'm hopi...

Re: Aileron Bar Assembly independent aileron movement

Not the best photography ever, but I took these before pulling mine apart last week:

Re: Diagram for control cables

Before I pull a cable ,I attach a thin cord at the end of the cable and as it is pulled out the cord takes it place and makes refitting the cable so much easier. Plus when pulleys are changed , I take photos of each pulley block as there often spacers fitted on the attach bolt to give clearances. W...

Re: Diagram for control cables

Looking for help. I picked up S/N 25405 been parked since 1988. I gutted it trying to restore. Not knowing alot I pulled all cables and pulleys without saving cables. I ordered a cable kit from McFarlanes. With only the parts manual we're having a hard time putting cables and pulleys together. Ques...

Re: Frameless windshield

Thanks Gary, I had a look at that picture and hoped I was missing something. However ... I have put a video online. It is a bit hard (motion sickness warning). It's from a tiny endoscope camera looking into the channel that the top of the windshield floats in. https://youtu.be/UjeLAgmA57A It looks l...

Frameless windshield

Attached are photos of N4180V's windshield. There is no STC or 337 in her paperwork. There are no through bolts in this so I'm assuming/hoping this is the LP Aero STC. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Thanks

Re: Ragwing fuel line reroute

Gareth, You'd have to be Houdini to install those lines without removing the floor. I'm not too familiar with the '48 but wouldn't the cabin heat ducting be in the way? If the goal is to get rid of the mechanical pump there is field approval 076-2 filed here for replacing the mechanical pump with a...

Ragwing fuel line reroute

I have read the various posts about 48 rag wing fuel pump replacement, necessity, mechanical versus electrical and finally removal and replacement with rerouted fuel lines. My preference is to route the fuel lines down the b posts at the back of the doors in the manner of the 170 A, B and subsequent...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

The '48 fuel lines run down the front door posts rather that the back door post like the A and b model. The fuel lines are also smaller. This all added up to the '48 requiring a fuel pump. Not a big deal if you have one and the associated one way valve. You might consider rerouting larger lines dow...

Re: Disconnecting Controls

For anyone that happens across this in a search, I figured it out (at least it worked for me): 1. Remove everything engine-side so the wire can slide up the inside of the sheath and out. 2. Release the control front and back of the panel 3. Pull the control into the cabin catching the rear retaining...

Disconnecting Controls

This is a general question rather than 170-specific: Can anyone tell me how to get the throttle, carb heat etc. controls out of the panel without wrecking them? Controls Collage.jpg I got the primer out and the mixture control. The engine-side attachments on the rest are all too large to go through ...

Yes that is the inertia unit. In your second picture of the floor the attachment point can be seen with the four rivets around it. The bolt is a AN4.

Kevin
Thanks Kevin. I had not spotted that!
