Re: EGT setup
I have one installed and never really use it. It's not really worth it unless you're gonna put probes in all 6.

I also did this, and recommend this instead of riveting. I've had mine installed for 2 years now, absolutely loving it. One of the best mods for the money.rschreiber wrote:I also used the screw option for mounting the pull handle just in case I needed to get back into the tail in the future.

To me that cost delta would be more than worth it.brianm wrote:The Sensenich website lists the STC'd prop for $6350. $7085 including backplate and composite spinner.JSwift wrote:Any idea what this cost vs. for example $5k for a new McCaulley 8042 climb prop for the 8 bolt O300A engine?

Re: Cruise prop T/0 vs climb prop ?
I'd keep the 8042 on and enjoy the scenery. 55 prop is gonna be anemic at altitude in summer, you'll pretty much be forced to depart early mornings / evenings if you're full of gas and another pax.

Re: Your Top 10 Aviation movies of all time
I’m going to have to respectfully but strongly disagree with the previous contributors. Top Gun Maverick was amazing. Top Gun is the greatest aviation film of all time. It’s an airplane movie for people who wouldn’t otherwise like airplane movies. The soundtrack is epic. 100% agreed. The number of ...

AOPA's 2017 Sweepstakes C-172 was painted with Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Ice Silver Acryglo to simulate polished aluminum. Might be something to consider if you want the look without the polishing. 1705p_sweeps_001_16x9.jpg My bird is also painted with something similar. It's stunning in the sunli...

What about something like this?

Of course, if you really wanted to spend $$$$...I'd be remiss to not recommend Best Tugs!

Re: Broken CHT - Replacement?
Agreed, in my experience it is common for the gasket-style probe to fail especially after working on the plugs. I would start with simply replacing the gasket probe after checking the harness connections.

Re: Is a 6 Cylinder Engine Monitor Overkill on a O-300A
I guess it depends on what you want out of an engine monitor. I think it is really nice to have CHT on all cylinders no matter what. Beyond that, my monitor has proven to be a helpful diagnostic tool when it showed a dead cylinder after startup one time…and it also let me know when the problem was ...

Re: Pitot Tube Drain Hole
Referencing my earlier post, I bought this: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/ps/coversaircraft_pitot/planesights3.php and happy to report it works perfectly!! There are 3 pitot cover sizes included and the smallest one fits. There are holes in the cover such that you won't pressurize the system ...

Re: Ultralight Helicopters
George, Be careful. I have flown experimental Rotorway helicopters for years and although I have not flown one of the ultralight helicopters like the Mosquito, I understand a lot of people have gotten hurt on these as they are not very stable and their ability to glide (autorotate) is almost zero I...

Agreed, the integration would be worth it. I also know of a few folks who have put in AV-30 and had some issues.DaveF wrote:AV-30 also looks like a nice device, but since the airplane has the 430 and 335, I'd stay with Garmin.

Re: What do you clean the outside of your engine with?
This is a good time to mention again… it’s a good idea to take an ice-pick or awl and poke a small hole at the lowest point of your cabin heat and carb heat sceet/scat hoses to allow them to drain any water that may accumulate in them. (This is not my idea…it came from Cessna…. just don’t recall of...

Two G5s should get it done and is probably what I would do. Two gi275 would be even better but those are $$$$$$.
