Has anyone tried the glue from a hot glue gun as a sealant? It melts at a much higher temp than candle wax so the sun should not melt it. I doubt it has the corrosive properties of silicone. But it needs research and a test.

Good mantra George. And don't forget to calculate how many checkbooks (with big balances) you will need for some of those categories. :)

I agree! I occasionally think it would be nice to have a big climb rate and a little faster cruise. I know I could sell the 170 and buy an old 180 for less than converting to a big engine. But beyond the beauty of the 170 tail is the lighter handling and low panel (great visibility). A converted 170...

I agree 100% with you Doug. In a stiff or gusty crosswind, you can plant the upwind wheel at a higher speed with power on, stop any side drift and you are still flying. Then you can decide when and if to plant the other main, and when and if to cut the power and let the tail down. You still have to ...

Go George! The 172 is no sports car but by comparision the Cherokee line is a damn dump truck in handling. Of course, the 170 is the sports car, light and nimble for a 4-seater. No bias at all

From memory, I recall that 50psi is the max listed on the tire on my tailwheel. There is little air volume difference between 35psi (book psi) and 50psi. If you fumble the air gauge just a bit you let out that much. So I just shoot for 50 psi. Plus, a small leak gets you from 50 to below 35 real qui...

Thank you Miles. It was great!
I have a friend who has done photography for both the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds and has flown with both of them. If this happened to him he has not let on.

Not only what it says in the specs or on the prop, but check the logs thoroughly. My prop is a "53 but was shortened many years ago due to nicks on the tip. It now is just over the minimum allowed length. I still get good numbers and it it very smooth so I guess it's OK. Cruise full throttle @ ...

I installed a Concorde sealed battery about 5 years ago. It was the same length and width but not quite as tall so I made a thicker filler for the cover. I did no paperwork and no IA has questioned the change. No more acid, no more mess. I do keep an automatic trickle charger on it during periods of...

I sell equipment that uses powder coat for most components, but I wouldn't do it for a structural aircraft part. The advantage for non-structural components is that powder coat is a hard, durable finish that is generally much thicker than liquid paint. It masks imperfections very well. That is exact...

Gosh that sounds high tech and expensive. I thought it used to be kerosense;-) Some had alcohol. I think a silicone fluid had been common for quite a while. Better let George tell us for sure.

contact Rich at http://www.leebottom.com/ click on the link for Ferry Service. Rich ferried my C170B from Las Vegas to Illinois. He has also ferried a C170 to the Bahamas. He was very low cost and since he flys for a major carrier I didn't have to buy him a ticket to get to the plane or get home. He...

I haven't seen cell phone WX with a lot of detail due to the small screen. I recently switched phones to a Sony Treo (Palm powered) with internet capability. I've been happy with the free WX sites for my needs. Included are pda friendly websites for The Weather Channel Accuweather NOAA (National Wea...
