Re: Arrg. More Snow in the NE

Hi Bruce, I share your weather outlook for today as I sit home waiting to start my snow blower. Looking forward to driving to the airport on Saturday to dig my plane out once more and then go home because I get plowed in each time it snows. They always plow out the hangers and leave the snow in fron...

Re: Wanted Aircraft Painter recommendations

Doug and George, I was looking to have only the area that is done in Cream to be repainted. If I was dealing with a true businessman the airplane would have been repainted by now. But when I stated the obvious the paint does not match the rest of the airplane and the painter states it was my fault b...

I had asked Jenny Aviation located in Hammonton NJ to paint the rudder. Now I knew this person for serveral years and thought he...

Assist Straps

Hi Guys, I would like to gain some information on the assist straps which are found on the 170's. I have a 49 c170a and of course they were not an option. I am assuming that the metal 'holders' are the problem pieces to be found. Are there any places where they are being made today, say for a antiqu...

Door Assembly

Bruce, To answer some of your questions. 1.) I have my door handles facing forward and angling up. I did this so they will lock and stay locked. As you know to lock the door you are suppose to push up if the door handle is put on correctly. (facing towards the rear) But mine always kept falling down...

EAA Membership

Russ, I have to agree that being a member of the EAA & APOA is necessary today to give them the strength(in numbers) to have as our(GA) voice against the FAA. Just think if they(EAA & AOPA) were not formed then when the FAA decides to have a rule change not in favor of GA who would be there ...

Aviation Books to read

Dave,

'Fear is the Hunter" I believe should be "Fate is the Hunter" also
a very good book to read in my opinion is "The Pilot" by Robert P. Davis.
He also authored 'The Glass Cockpit" which is good also and both have been made into movies.

Pancake Mufflers

Mike,

They were useable but had a lot of cracks. When they came back
they were polished and all of the welds were redone.

Pancake Mufflers

Mike,

I am sure you are aware that WAG Aero will repair Pancakes. I had mine done there and they came out looking like new.
I just looked at their catalog and I think the price is about $370 per side.

Bill,

About 'Having to Change Landing Gear" I have owned and been flying
a C170A 1949 for 40 years and the landing gear works just fine. I believe
changing the landing gear is a nice to have, unless the gear has been
damage, it works just fine.
Just my 2 cents.
