I just wonder how they were installed when the planes came from the factory. Maybe that info is available somewhere(?)
But it's not a big deal.

I want to know how to install new seat belts for the front seat.
Should the buckles be on the right, left, or maybe inboard or outboard side?
Or does it really matter?

Yesterday I reinstalled the starter and flew for an hour. No leaks! I have no idea what was wrong with the first set of seals Aerotech of Louisville installed.

Mr. Grimsley had it right - it would indeed be the upper seal leaking that would allow oil to migrate into the starter. I was thinking wrong about how it was set up. OK, I read Mr. Grimsley's article. Near the end he says: "However, leaks around the upper seal will put crankcase oil inside the starter motor which could cause poor electrical contact." Unless I'm missing something, I would think it would be leaks around the lower seal that would put oil ...

Bushing is in place in the front holes in the leaves. Bolt and nut are new. The 3 leaves in the picture
are part of the 4 leaf spring set I bought from Univair a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, the leaves appear to be 3 different thicknesses, but I think that's due to how I held the camera. Mr. Dyer told me the tailsprings
he sells are the same thickness as the original Cessna parts. I'm guessing it's 6 gauge steel.

In my original post I claimed that 3 leaves were a perfect fit, but as you can see from the attached very close up picuture
of my setup, there's a gap. About a fourth the thickness of a spring leaf - definitely not enough room for that 4th leaf.
I plan to insert an aluminum shim to close the gap.

John, nice pictures of those tail spring mounting brackets. The one on the right looks like the one on my B. Looking at the pictures, I get the impression that the one on the left would have more room for spring leaves than the one on the right. If I can manage it I hope to take a picture of my set ...

Maybe it's my imagination, but looking at your tailspring picture those leaves look thinner
than the ones Univair sent me. Did those 4 leaves come from Univair? Your coil springs look
like the ones I bought from Univair.

Bruce, that's good news. But you must have a different parts manual than I have.
Mine, on page 54, shows the tailwheel spring for planes serial numbers 20806 and
on. My plane's serial number is 25174, so that picture should apply. It shows 4 leaves.
