Re: Fuel Selector Valve 1950 170A

I Hope that this fits in with the original intent of this thread. I am also having an issue with the fuel valve in my 1951 C-170A, SN 20155. I haven't crawled under the belly to see which valve is installed, but I assume that it is the original brass valve that came on it from Cessna. It turned extr...

Re: 0300D in 1951 170A

Ty, If I'm not mistaken, I think you're also going from an 8-bolt prop to a 6-bolt one. Does the prop come with the engine? Yes, a prop change would be required, and sadly, the prop has been reconditioned and sold already. I have a six bolt 7653 that’s just collecting dust in the garage. Thanks! If...

Re: 0300D in 1951 170A

I have always thought that the spinner looked different than other 170s, I guess that I just hadn't researched it. If I understand all of this correctly, no matter which spinner I have, they will not interchange between a 6 hole/8 hole prop? Mr. Richard, that is a beautiful restoration! A great pict...

Re: 0300D in 1951 170A

Thank you everyone for the replies, I'm fairly new to aviation, but eager to learn all that I can! A question on the starter: Is the starter adapter used on the O300D in any way more reliable, more robust, or better than the pull cable style found on the C-145? I have read that some are of the opini...

Re: Converting from cable pull start to electric push button

...You would be converting from a cable pull start to an angled starter with a electric push button start, so those electrical mods would be necessary. Couple of hours labor and cost of wire, solenoid, push button or key switch. ... Here’s an idea for those switching from the pull cable start yet w...

Re: 0300D in 1951 170A

Don't forget that $600 spinner changeout also. Ty, at the risk of repeating myself...(I know no one present thinks I would do that tho'... ... Just what is it about a vacuum pump that makes you feel safer? Is it the fact that NTSB and FAA accident reports find vacuum pump failures one of the ...

Re: 0300D in 1951 170A

I would say, it's a total unknown as to the true state of your engine until it's torn apart. Well almost a total unknown as you say it had a newer top end but were those new cylinders at the top or reconditioned ? In my opinion, it's the cost of parts and part availability that's driving the cost o...

0300D in 1951 170A

Hello all, I am in need of some advice from the community.. The C-145 in my '51 A model has 1900+ hours on a many years old overhaul, and ~1200 hours on a few years newer top end. I have an opportunity to purchase an O300D from a 172, that has ~2800 hour SMOH/Since new, for what I would consider to ...

Control Yoke Interchange

Not sure if this has been covered in another thread or not; Are the control yokes from a C140 interchangeable with a C170? Somewhere along the life of my '51 A model, the yokes have been replaced with the ram horn style. I'm partial to the appearance of the original style yoke, and have the opportun...

My recently purchased '51 A model. I'm a freshly minted pilot who did all of my learning in a piper nose dragger...Doing my best to make the transition. What a wealth of information there is to be found here at the association, truly a great gathering of people.
