Re: 170B in Black Panther
No I’m not actively looking for more opportunities to rent it out. It was a good experience and it was extremely convenient since it was at my home airport. Matter of fact, they used the hanger and ramp for food service and had quite a spread for breakfast and lunch. I wouldn’t turn down an offer to...

Re: 170B in Black Panther
Thanks Bruce
I finally saw the movie and it’s a bigger scene than I thought it would be. Of course I couldn’t pay attention to what was going on in the scene because I was paying attention to the airplane!

Re: 170B in Black Panther
Thanks Brian,
I don’t have my airplane on a registry. I was just in the right place at the right time. I guess we’ve been missing each other at peach state. I haven’t flown out there on a Saturday in several weeks. Looking forward to some good flying weather and meeting you out there.

Re: 170B in Black Panther
I was wondering if the scene would make the cut! I haven’t seen the movie yet but that’s my airplane they used. N3407D is famous...kinda. It looks nothing like it does in the film. The airplane is actually polished/red but they wrapped it with blue and white vinyl for the movie. It was filmed in Gri...

Re: Hello from a new owner
Congratulations on your purchase Brian! I'm pretty close to you in Williamson,Ga. When you get checked out we will have to meet up at Barnstormers grill. It will be nice to see another 170 around. I've had mine for about a year so I'm not an expert on them but I certainly am having fun with it. Feel...

Re: Loss of a TX Aviator
Nate and his wife Laura were active members of our aviation community here in Williamson,Ga. He was an instructor and a glider pilot. I am beyond baffled by this accident. With the loss of Ron Alexander in November and now this I know I speak for many when I say we are truly heartbroken.

Re: New 170 owner
The top of the fuselage is painted all the way back to the horizontal so if they painted before the vertical was installed there would be paint there. I'm just not sure if they did it that way. I haven't looked at mine close enough yet to tell if it's different on the left and right. Something new t...

Re: New 170 owner
Those are great ideas Gary. I've thought about removing the stab to see if there's any paint under it. I will definitely try to buff the underside of the elevator tips and see what it looks like. I also like that you found where the name came from. If nothing else works maybe I will try to match the...

Re: New 170 owner
Yes it does still have the original bird logo and small numbers on the tail. The small Trademark symbol (R with a circle around it) is even still there. My trim plate says 5-B-3-CE so as far as I can tell the interior is the only thing not original since it's red now.

Re: New 170 owner
Bruce as you can see by my picture I'm not sure I can even consider myself in the red column yet. Until I can get some new paint on her then I guess I'm in a class by myself.

Re: New 170 owner
So what I've already learned from this group is that red 55's are the best and the fastest 170's built. I guess I'm just a lucky guy! Im glad you saw my post Jim. I'm at barstormers almost every Saturday even if I don't fly in. I'm a part of the youth program there teaching youngsters maintanence sk...

Re: New 170 owner
Wow! Beautiful bird Joe. What do you know about the color? I'm trying to figure out what cypria red looked like but no one seems to know. I can't find a single spot on mine that's not faded into this coppery maroon color.

Re: New 170 owner
Thanks Vern and Joe. I will be looking for some places to visit this spring so maybe we can meet somewhere. Now let me see if I can figure out how to post a picture....

New 170 owner
Hello all, I finally bought the 170 I've been wanting for over 20 years and I couldn't be more excited! She's a 1955 that's mostly original. I think the paint is original Cypria Red Metallic although it looks brown now. Last month I was at Peach State airport (ga2) and I met a member of the associat...
