Recommendations in the Shenandoah Valley Area for 5-8 May?
Folks, I’m heading out to the Shenandoah Valley area for a quick getaway with my lovely bride in our 170 for a few days. Any recommendations on good airports and perhaps a cozy inn or B&B. We will likely rent a car for a couple of days. We’ve done the mountains and the National Park but now we w...

Re: Airform baffles installation questions
I had Airforms baffles installed during my overhaul in 2018 on my 52 B model. The work was done by Stick-n-Rudder at Chatham Airport in MA. Long story short is the shop had to go back and forth several times with Airforms and do several custom adjustments. The shop owner who does a lot of Cessna wor...

Re: Does anyone have an EI FP5L fuel computer?
I’ve been flying with this fuel computer for over three years and I have never found a way to set tenths of gallons. I stick the tanks at least every other flight or so and find that helps reduce any rounding errors. In short if my stick readings are lower than what the fuel remains says I will up d...

Well done! So in a few months you’ll have to let us know which you enjoy more, rebuilding her or flying her. My guess is the former just adds to the joy of the latter.

Correcting my earlier post. Yes my 76-53 prop is the middle range, not the cruise prop.

120’ MSL. With my O-300A and McCauley 76-53 cruise prop. Most days at 1900 lbs., I can take off and clear the the trees in 1800’. Just don’t ask me to climb quickly after that!

Re: 51 170A Gear Repair
Wishing you the best of luck with the repairs as well. Here's hoping for a success story and some lessons learned about ownership of these birds. I'm probably looking at some gear updates in my future (at least a strip, inspect and repaint as a minimum) so I too am interested in your progress. Cheers!

Re: Where were you on 9-11-2001?
I was standing at a makeshift plywood operations counter at Al Jaber Airbase in Kuwait. We were preparing to have our twice weekly Combat Search And Rescue alert brief. I distinctly remember the small 13" color TV set on the counter that was tuned to CNN 24/7 back in the day. Some one said 'loo...

Re: What Tires Do You Use?
I just reviewed this choice my self. My flying includes pavement and grass with an occaisonal dirt to grass transition so at $100 cheaper per tire I stuck with my 8.00 x 6 tires. I tried to go 4 ply but the backorder was too long so I now have 6 ply getting ready to install any day now....

Re: Whoops lost my rear seat attach bolts... need help
Success, On Thursday I was able to get most of the correct bolts at the local shop. Most, because as it turns out previous mods to 94D have caused some changes to the nut plates but the key was the two side bolts under the seat. Friday AM I got the rest of the needed hardware and I installed some cl...

Whoops lost my rear seat attach bolts... need help
Please help if you know the proper size of the bolts that hold the stock rear seat into a ‘52 170B. I have read all the posts about tricks of the trade but I have not seen the sizes. I moved hangars about two months ago with the rear seat out and somewhere my ziplock carefully marked “rear seat inst...

Re: Old Sectional Charts
Ryan,
Get well soon! You definitely struck a cord with one of my favorite amusements, old maps. I want to click on the link but fear I will be “lost” for days. Thanks for sharing. I’m working on a wall in my hangar for maps and memorabilia just like this. Very cool!
