WTB Scott or Rochester oil temperature gauge

I am looking to purchase an NOS or good condition used Scott or Rochester oil temperature gauge (capillary type). Spruce is out of stock for an indefinite amount of time and I've tried two Rochester gauges from Wag Aero that didn't get near 200F in boiling water. Contact me through forum private mes...

Re: Restoration Questions

Gary, For 3d work I use Fusion 360. They have a free hobbyist tier. For 2d I use QCad. There is a free version and the pro version is something like $50. It is more than adequate for my projects. Ryan, I measured 1.28 - 1.29 edge-to-edge between the switch hole and fuse hole. By my math that comes o...

Re: Restoration Questions

Ryan, got to the hangar today to take some measurements. The switch holes are 15/32, same as the boss on an AN switch. The spacing is the same as the fuse holder holes. Gary, the service I used is SendCutSend. And it fit: IMG_20240219_190139.jpg Just need to paint it and drill a couple of holes some...

Re: Restoration Questions

Hi Ryan, Regarding the fuse holder, I've attached a tracing of mine. It was scanned at 600x600 dpi and I included a machinists rule for reference. You should be able to import and trace it in your CAD package. It was made while everything was installed in the airplane, before I decided to take it al...

Re: Tail U-Bolt

I'd check with Air Repair. They carry a ton of L-19 parts. The L-19 part number seems to be 0642133 or 0642154, but I bet there is a good chance that it is exactly the same as the 170 part.

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A

The final copy of the acrylic panel has been completed and installed during 62C's annual inspection. The panel was cut/engraved on a Glowforge laser cutter/engraver. I tested three different suppliers for the acrylic, but the final acrylic was sourced from Glowforge itself and I determined it to be...

Re: 1948 metal wings

There are at least 5 metallization STCs. You can pull your aircraft records for free (http://cares.faa.gov). If the conversion was done legally there should be a form 337 recording the work.

2 1/4" instruments on the stationary sub panel

So I'm a few months into an engine swap that has evolved, as these things do, into a mini restoration. Tonight I removed the stationary instrument sub panel to make it easier to work behind the panel and that has got me thinking about replacing/upgrading those instruments. My chronometer has never w...

Re: AWI?

Bought a complete new exhaust earlier this year and they got back to me promptly. Just had my engine mount overhauled (rebuilt, basically), also a quick and easy process. I'll be driving up to Minneapolis to pick it up just as soon as Maxwell is done with my prop.

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

I got an email from the Association that had details of the dinner and shirt. It had a picture of the shirt. It's a polo shirt with the TIC170A log on the arm and some text on the breast. I'll probably be at the dinner. My 170 is down for an engine swap but I'll be at the show Sun-Thurs to see the s...

Re: Insight on panel

It's a single nut/bolt at a u-joint. The hard part is getting under the panel. Easiest with the seats removed but doable without. Definitely ask your A&P first, but many would be comfortable with you removing them yourself and inspecting the work after you re-install them. It will require a logb...

Do you have the Dip Davis cowl latch mod? Mine came with -3 camlocs but I found that -2s worked better on my airplane. See this thread for more info: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15842

Re: Installing a second Garmin G5 and a GNC 355,GMU11

I instruct in a fleet of 172s with G5s. They all have the GMU-11 in the left wingtip. It works great, and I suspect the aircraft are similar enough that it would be good in the 170 as well.

Re: Oil Pan Heater Pad

One engine heater manufacturer that I talked to told me, off the record, that he leaves his heater on all winter with a blanket over the cowling. His personal opinion (the company takes no official position for fear of liability) is that it's heating and cooling cycles that cause condensation buildu...
