Re: Help! "New" 170 with non-standard fuel caps

Just a word of caution. If you are getting water in your fuel be extremely careful as the drains for getting that water out are not 100% effective. You can get water in the outer tank and there are no drains in those tanks. I had the same issue when I first got my plane and had an emergency landing ...

Presidential tars.

We are now headed for our 6th weekend in a row of our airport being totally closed by the president returning home to relax. The first year he was home 27 times last year 25 times and 10 already this year. All this and absolutely no compensation to the renters or people trying to operate businesses ...

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B

For those of you claiming the 170 has the same rudder as the 195 that is not correct. The 170 actually has more rudder than a 195 as there is no tail cone on the 170 and the rudder extends lower on the 170. Bill K

New high wing Vans.

Just wondering what you guys think of the teaser released on the new high wing Vans aircraft. Pictures remind me of a 140 or 170. can't wait to see more. Bill K

Re: 2022 Cessna 170 Convention - Burlington, Vermont

I just want to thank Maria and Steve for hosting this Convention. Although we had to leave early Lorraine and I sure enjoyed our time there. We are sure lucky to have members willing to put in the effort to make these conventions work. Thanks. Bill K

Re: Hello

Adam I started flying in 1993 and after about 30 hrs in a Tomahawk I bought a 48 170 that was pretty nice. I was thinking I might buy a B after a few years. Well I liked my 48 so much that hasn't happened. The 48 is probably one of the most under appreciated used aircraft you can buy. My only advice...

aviation weather web sites.

There use to be a web site with a weather map of the US which had color coded dots at airports reporting weather. Low IFR would be purple IFR was red low VFR was orange and VFR was green. If you clicked on an airport the latest reported weather would be displayed. A year or so ago that site was disc...

Re: Wondering what to expect

Things must really be getting rough in DC. He's coming home almost every weekend. Airport has had to cancel the annual airshow for the next four years because they have no schedule for when he won't be in town. Still no financial help for anyone. I pity the FBO and flight school. Bill K

Re: Wondering what to expect

Well. This is sure getting to be a pain. Airport is getting shut down for 3 days every other weekend and is getting no financial help. Seems like with ads b they could be a little more accommodating to the local air traffic but there is absolutely no interest from the feds. Bill K

Re: '48 Fuel Cap Overflowing/Uneven Fuel Burn

If your gasket or the small O-ring does not seal gas will be sucked out of the fill cap and gas will be sucked over from the other tank because the cap is In a low pressure area of the airfoil. Same thing happens if you forget to put a cap on. The tank that shows a high fuel burn by the gauge is the...

Re: Straight 170 (Raqwing) Accident - Fuel Pump?

I found the accident quite disturbing as the plane looked identical to mine. I would also suspect a chance that the check valve was in backwards or was not opening properly because it did not have a low enough cracking pressure. Like you George I am also suspicious that the NTSB failed to find the r...

Re: Modern Pitot on '48 Ragwing

if yours is like mine it would be easy to replace the original as there is an inspection plate and a connector just inside the wing. if your going to cut the fabric hopefully you have dope on your fabric and not some of the other finishes.

Re: Cessna 170 Accident #2

Interesting report. I really don't consider my 170 much of a four place airplane. That said last weekend I took four people who were close to the same weight up. Out of an abudance of caution I had the lightest passenger stay on the ground for trip around the pattern. Satisfied that there was enough...
