Re: The Ragwingl 170 Fuel Pump Question, once more...

Thank You for the quick response!
I think the person who ask me has decided to get rid of the electric auto pump and get an engine pump etc. in order to make it original and compliant.

The Ragwingl 170 Fuel Pump Question, once more...

in October 2014 48RagwingPilot commented that he could not find any instance where anyone had obtained a field approval (337) for removal of the fuel pump on a C170. After several hours of my own searching the postings for the last few years, it appears that a C170 which has an engine driven fuel pu...

Re: Angle of Attack indicator

The March Issue of AOPA Pilot (pg 97) has an article on the Alpha System AOA.
According to the article the Alpha units have been approved by the FAA as a minor installation (logbook entry) for most installations (some restrictions apply).

Re: Angle of Attack indicator

Thanks, I appredciate the details and comments. I can imagine the chewing I may receive when my old Flight Instructor spots it during a BFR. Since I have it, I have to install it, sometime. If I succeed in getting approval and installing and calibrating it, I will post an update. Don't expect anythi...

Re: Angle of Attack indicator

I would not want to go the log book entry solution unless I had a letter from the local FSDO stating that "they" did not need a 337 for this installation. RATS! I did not think about the area in front of the strut being "disturbed". The manufacturer would likely have warned me wh...

Re: Angle of Attack indicator

I thought it would be a useful "safety" addition to our 170A. My wife bought one and surprised me with it as a Christmas present. Unfortunately, it will require a 337. When I talked with them (manufacturer) they were encouraging and sent me a note about an approval (337) obtained by an own...

Re: Rudder Balance

Yep, it is a control surface and balance must be checked after repair.
Thank you George.
I used a 2 lb diving weight and measured 12 & 7/8 inch to balance. Just under 26 in lb.

Rudder Balance

We have replaced my rudder control horn with the univar replacement part.
What is the expected Cessna balance value for a 1951 C170 A (N23AD)?

Thanks

If you haven't already, I recomend you have your master cylinders checked. The first intermittent failure on my right brake almost resulted in my instructor and I taking out a fence. The A&P could not get the seals to hold pressure without leaking down slowly. It was replaced with a rebuilt. Ove...

RE: Aussie & Muffy

170s look SO good on floats! Fine looking Aussie, Cory. Something must have troubled him. Dogs, like people respond well to praise and bribes. You might try treats and a taxi run or 2 before the first flight. Henry enjoys car, boat, airplane or hiking. We always walk a bit where ever we land. That i...

LED upgrades for Maglites, etc.

For the curious and adventuresome; here is a link to Terra-Lux, their distributors and related items. Terra-Lux makes LED plug-in replacements for the Maglite series of flash lights (and probably others). The ultra low current high efficiency LED upgrade is advertised to extend battery life signific...

Whew! 15 long hours of sweat and grime, and all is well. We took the left caliper off and checked it. There was a slight amount of rust and build up but nothing unusual. A bit of cleaning, sanding, polishing and it went back on the wheel. Next we pulled the top from the left master cylinder. Good gr...

The Cleveland MC model 10-34 (and 10-35) appears physically to be just like the MCs in our plane, anybody aware of any documents substantiating that?

Help with 170A Master Cylinder

I would like to replace my left brake Master Cylinder (MC) The left brake fails to actuate randomly. The pads and caliper look OK. The pedal never gets soft; it just doesn't activate the caliper. As long as I fill the cylinder up into the filler hole before each flight I'm OK for several TO & La...
