OT: New Resident
After selling our beloved 170 a year ago, our hangar is occupied once again. 12 months, 26 days and 11 hours after I flew N49CP off our strip for the last time, N3443K came home. I have always wanted one of these...now to save for another 170 to share the hangar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCmKi...

Re: Firewall Blanket
I replace my firewall blanket with a pre-sewn blanket from Airtex. It fit well and matched my existing interior. They are quilted and have edging sewn in place. I had one issue when delivered: the blanket comes in two pieces, one for above and one for below the cabin air ducting on the firewall. Whe...

Re: Always carry a spare if you have one
My initial thought looking at the picture is crack propagation from both the left and the right as shown by the shiny, clam shell type surface leading to the narrow grainy area just left of center. The shiny areas are where it was cracked. The grainy area is what failed instantaneously. Hard to tell...

Re: Going to the Dark Side
I had the privilege of spending 3 days at Galesburg as well. Attached are some then and now pics: In 1971 we attended the first AAA fly in at Blakesburg Iowa. For my 8th birthday, my parents arranged a Stearman ride with Tom Lowe. It was my first biplane ride and I still remember the low pass and pu...

Re: Aviation "Code of Ethics"
Last December, a friend and I - he in his Super Cub and I in our 170 - were hitting grass strips North of the Metroplex. We had been invited to land at a coworkers strip. He had given me a description of his place and I had found it (so I thought) months earlier but not landed. This day it took a wh...

Re: Cessna 170A grass field performance
Flew our 53 B off of 1800' grass, 1000' msl, power lines on the south end. big hill going south towards power lines. Stock engine with mid range prop. Never took off at gross over about 90 degrees but with 2 adults, full gas and a few bags I never felt like I was cutting it close. 3200' at sea level...

A Google Earth sight that bookmarks DC-3 sightings around the globe. Finally the internet being put to good use. Now, how about a "Find the 170s " site?

Miles, I am a Parks grad and the P-2 has a special place in my heart, having earned my A&P in the very halls were it was built. Do you know who/where the current owner is? Thanks.

Re: FAA Common Sense NOT
My understanding is the "one annual for every 90 days" has to do with the fact that all IA renewals are due the same time during the year, regardless of when you are issued your certificate. This allows a new IA to be compliant by accomplishing one, two or three annuals in his first year, ...

Re: Changing of the Guard
Hey George, next is to pay off the house! That should be done by May or June and then we start saving for something new. We loved the 170 but realized that there are many different airplanes we would like to experience owning and it will be a few years before we can be a multi-plane family. Next wil...

Changing of the Guard
The last two days have been bitter sweet. Yesterday I took off from our back yard strip a half hour before sunrise and headed south east for McKinney Texas where I picked up a good friend. Glenn and I departed McKinney about 0745 and headed east. Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and fi...

Re: Front seal leak
Do some checking before you arbitrarily remove and replace the front seal. I had a similar leak last month that revealed itself as a very light mist of oil on the windscreen. Upon removing the cowl, spinner and prop, I realized that the oil spray was only located at the top of the cow. Further inves...

Re: A New Oshkosh Video
This is the '09 video, or at least a lot of '09 footage. several planes that did not make '10:
The T-37, the F-86 leading the 5 L-39s (that F-86 stayed home this year), the White Knight, the A380.
Still a great video!
