Re: Leaking Starter Pinion
I feel for you, as I have the same issue, but have yet to find a good solution. I have wiped grease around it and it slows for awhile. I have just learned to wipe the belly down after every flight, kind of like I do with Rudder my dog after a good walk.

Cylinder compressions
Just sent the 170 in for the ADS-B upgrade and was able to get the annual done at the same time. All compression were in the high seventies, but jug # 2 at a 71. At every annual they vary a little #2 two has been as high as 78 and as low as 72, along with the rest of the cylinders #1 was a 72 last y...

Re: How Many GA Hours in 2016?
I have put 35 hours on the 170B since we purchased her the first part of June, the first five hours were dual instruction, as my insurance company wanted 15 landings and two hours, and it is hard to get 15 landings in two hours and cover all the other things I wanted to cover in the airplane. That b...

Re: Our newly purchased 170.
Sorry I didn't see you Dave, I was trying to get done, so I didn't interfere with the quick turn around of the King Air medical flight that came in. I would love to get together sometime, are you based in Longmont?

Re: Our newly purchased 170.
Merry Christmas everyone, just a fun pic of our 170, long before it was restored. The pic was taken in Alaska when it belonged to a doctor, sure wish our bird could talk.

Re: Pre Heating
Good stuff, one time years ago I was preflighting a Cherokee 180 on a very cold morning and noticed the bottom of my fuel sample looked extremely cloudy, after a closer look it was definitely ice. The water had crystallized to almost the same consistency of snow. It all drained out fine, but I fille...

Pre Heating
Starting to get some really cold days in Colorado, and would like some cold weather advise, geared toward the 0-300, as when to pre heat and when it is safe to fly, as far as engine longevity. I have a rule to pre-heat at 40 degrees or bellow and I install the oil pan cooler block in the cowling bel...

Re: ADS B
The ADS-B topic in my mind is a very important one, and I have been following this forum pretty close, as this will be my next big investment. I transition through airspace Bravo on a regular basis around Denver International, and the overall thought amongst the old boys that hang out around the FBO...

Re: Our newly purchased 170
Sorry for not responding as of late, we have a hot air balloon as well as the 170, and we were busy with Albuqerque the first part of October. We have one other balloon event, down in south eastern Colorado, then some more free time to fly what we want when we want, but really is life all that bad a...

Re: Our newly purchased 170.
It is the same airplane, it was two Swedish brothers that restored her, one worked for United and one worked for Continental and she does have a lot of Boeing interior parts, they did a wonderful job. They got the paint from Boeing, after Pan Am went belly up and canceled all pending orders, so they...
