O 300 D Rebuild
My O300D is just shy of 1800 hours and the oil samples are showing metal levels that my mechanic is becoming concerned about. He is urging me to think about an engine rebuild or replacement. The very good engine shop near here has a 6 to 8 month backlog. Can anyone recommend an engine shop that they...

Re: Looking for a fuselage part
I'll call mschlender tomorrow. And yep, it's a flat piece that I've thought of duplicating, using the right one as a template. Thanks for everyone's help! Mike

Looking for a fuselage part
I'm trying to locate a wing part for my ' 53 170B. It's part number 052 0007 Plate-Wing aft upper fairing, for the left wing. It's the fairing that covers the rear of the wing to fuselage area, adjacent to the flaps. If anyone has one for sale or knows of someone parting out a fuselage, please let m...

Painting Stencils
I'm trying to locate the artwork or stencils for the art deco style "170" painted on the door 0f '53 170's. Does the Association have that artwork in it's database? If not, does anyone know a source for the artwork or stencil's? Thanks!

Re: Useful Load Question
Thanks Bruce and Miles for your comments and ideas on this. I just find it interesting and was curious about how these airplanes typically change over time from others' experiences. I, of course, thought also of things like the ELT and the vacuum pump on the O 300D, things which weren't there origin...

Useful Load Question
After a new paint job, my mechanic did a reweigh of my 53 170B and it now has a useful load of 830 lbs. When new at the factory, the useful load was 927 lbs. It has an O-300D engine replacing the C 145, but otherwise is a stock airplane. Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any insights about whe...

Control Surface Balancing
I just painted my airplane and we are reinstalling the control surfaces. Does anyone know the correct balance in ft/lbs for the ailerons and rudder? I found a discussion from several years ago that gave the correct numbers for the elevators but I still need the other two. The repair manual does not ...

Door and Window Weatherstripping
I am rebuilding and painting the doors and windows on my '53 170B . Does anyone know a source for the original rubber weatherstripping? It is held in place with a crimped bead on the door edge. Thanks, Mike Stahlman

Re: 1953 C 170 paint Scheme
Thanks Ryan and Bruce. I am an Association member and I will go to that file and check out what is there. A good diagram will help out the painter immensely. I'm hoping to fly back to the Indiana convention in July and I'll look both of you up. Mike

1953 C 170 paint Scheme
I'm getting ready to have my '53 170-B painted this spring and want to put the original paint scheme on it. I've seen some photos on line but was wondering if there are actual diagrams with measurements available anywhere ? Does the Association have a file of these or do any members have their own t...
