Re: tailwheel main spring replacement
I wanted to follow up on my earlier posts, as I bought a new main spring, and finally replaced it over the weekend. It was a very timely replacement, as the bolt that secured the Scott 3200 tailwheel assembly was bent and partially separated (see attached image)! Not sure how long that would've last...

Re: Landing gear adjustment
Thought I'd post a couple images of the wear on my main wheels. The pilot's side wheel has excessive wear on the inside of the tire. I have a set of shims, and wonder which one to use? (.058, .073, .110, .126)

Re: Brake Master Cylinder
Bruce - looked through a bunch of posts, and saw the reference to the tab left on the cylinder - can you provide any links to steps to remove this, or diagrams? I did not see any posts in my initial search. I would assume that when rebuilding the cylinder, all that's required is to slide it off the ...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder
Here's an image of the master cylinder that's currently installed - is this the original from 1952? I will have an A&P rebuild for me, but nice to have the info. Notice the fluid at the bottom - the filler screw (with I assume vent) is at the top. Not sure what this plate does, as there is a spr...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder
thanks Bruce - I also saw another post of yours referencing the seal replacement - I can leave the cylinder in place and just diassemble the pedal from the shaft/piston asym and simple remove it. Is it that simple?

Re: Moisture in the oil
Interesting comment regarding blow-by. That's the first time I've heard this - makes me wonder about fitting then of lawn mower engines, etc - as I've never seen the quantities of water (any water, for that matter) in these crankcases - and assume that the fitting of components is probably not very ...

Brake Master Cylinder
Lots of posts on brakes - I did a quick search but did not see this - apologies if I missed it (please send link). Issue: I have cleveland brakes on my 170B, and having issue with air in the system - the brake is solid on the ground after being bleed from the bottom up (fluid pushed up from the brak...

Moisture in the oil
Ok, so I'm a new guy to plane ownership, and I see a lot of postings related to drying/moisture - what I can't seem to wrap my head around is the huge quantity of moisture that these (my) engines seem to 'generate' during a flight. I live in Utah and moisture in the winter is in the single digits, a...

Thanks all for the feedback - Bruce, a very compelling tale of woe! No wonder the numbers of aviators are dwindling with so many potential costs lurking in the shadows...
Ordering a new spring now (do not see anywhere in the logs that I have when it was last replaced).

Re: tailwheel main spring replacement
Thanks for the response. I'm curious is this because of history of failures near the 500 hour point, or?
Is there any warning prior to failure? What is the typical damage if fails?
