Adding weight to ailerons

I have found that every control surface I painted is within spec after painting except for the ailerons. Granted I don't know what they were at prior to me painting them. Having to add weight to both to bring it into spec. What kind of rivets are you supposed to use? I have seen some with an X on th...

black U-channel

Guys, what current part number are folks using for the black u-channel that you put on the horizontal where it meets the fuselage and under the vertical? I think I have found it but want to be sure before ordering.

Thanks

Re: Painting

Apparently I was a bit misunderstood and have since been straightened out regarding the Alodine stage. You do in fact wash it off like you should. However here is where it still gets wierd. The painter I am working with paints jets, Cessnas, fancy homebuilts etc. he goes from the Alodine stage to an...

Painting

Getting very close to painting my 55'. It has been completely stripped, been going over rivet heads and the hard to reach areas. I am about to go crazy! Anyone here ever heard of doing the Aluma Prep process and then onto the Alodine but instead of washing the Alodine off, letting it dry and sanding...

Re: New Cowling

I have personal photos of that plane when he came to Boise this past summer. He lives/works up in Coeur d'alene, ID. Very nice 170B, it is a fiberglass custom cowl that encloses a Continental IO-360. I forget his name but he was also very nice.

Alrighty, well thank you again for digging that up. I will be adding connectors to simplify this as well for wing removal.

Re: running wire

Wing wiring comes through the leading edge then down the door post about halfway, then forward behind the forward interior side panel. The top and aft fuselage wiring goes out the same way, then back inside aft and below the big fuel gauge hole, near where the fuel lines come in. There is wiring on...

running wire

running wire.....didnt know what it looked like previously, should the wire run out the large holes where the fuel gauges go and down the side of the fuse then into the fuse for landing lights etc or should it stay inside the cabin and run down the inside of the door post to the panel? Or does it ma...

hardware question

Putting this 170B back together is harder than I thought. Get caught up on the simplest tasks. Parts manual shows something will take a bolt and nut, then I go looking for this said bolt and nut. Just looking for a bit of guidance on putting this back together. You guys just start with a big bag of ...

Re: Baffling off an O-300D

Hey, Kyle. I have two sets of 0-300A/C-145 baffles that came off of a 56/54 respectively. I'll give you one set if you'll pay for shipping. I bought a new set and don't need these. Rob Awesome! I have been reworking the baffling, If you have some that is usable, I will gladly pay for shipping. My 5...

Re: Baffling off an O-300D

The baffling for the C172 is not the same as the 170''s. The cowling is wider due to the nose wheel setup. Most of the D engines came from 172's. In the installation of an 0-300-D engine in the 170 the STC states KEEP your baffling. It can be trimmed both sides and the rear has to be trimmed lower ...

Re: Baffling off an O-300D

Thanks for the tips. In my searches for baffling for my 55' 170B, I came across this baffling for basically free and was told it was removed from an O-300D and was off a fairly early model 172. My cowlings arent original to the rest of the airframe, that's for sure. Anyhow, it seems overall, no matt...

Baffling off an O-300D

I fell into some baffling or 55 170B project that was removed from an O-300D engine. Looking at it, it all seemed like it would fit just fine...Untill I tried installing the upper cowl. The side baffling pieces appear to be a bit to wide as well as the two large rear pieces of the baffling, seems th...
