Re: 170 down in auburn

Thanks Bruce,

I should clarify what my understanding from the investigator is. They were about 1200 ft. short of the runway and about 300ft above what a normal glide path would be, not at 300ft agl when they stalled. That might have resulted in the temptation to add a slip.

Re: 170 down in auburn

Losing Bruce and Kathy was a terrible tragedy. They were a wonderful couple who loved every moment of life and loved flying. I sold Bruce and Kathy 65C about 5 years ago. They loved that plane and cared for it meticulously. They will be greatly missed by their loved ones and the flying community. I ...

Re: Removing exhaust deposits from cowling

I use Extreme Simple Green which was designed to be used on aluminum aircraft. Works great. I complained to the Simple Green folks and was attacked by them for daring to publicly repeat the results of my test. The Simple Green representative even came onto the forums and got very defensive....even ...

Re: Two things you don't see every day

Its not a big deal but I spelled it wrong. It started out as "Leza Air Cam" and then must have changed to Lockwood. I think you can get a special endorsement and can fly this plane without a multiengine rating. Anyway looks like fun. Totally fun plane!!! My good friend built and fly's thi...

Re: Tailwheel Spring Tension: A video of how to do it

I don't disagree with you on this and it makes sense based on what little I know about 3200's.. Is there any documentation you can point me to that would back this up? Sure! Try page 154 of the 170-B IPC. (Now tell the truth....you actually DID expect a smart-A__ answer from me on this didn'...

Re: Tailwheel Spring Tension: A video of how to do it

The tailwheel should have only 3 internal compression springs for a Cessna 120/140/170 (not the 5 depicted in some parts books, which applies to C-180/185/L-19 and Pawnee aircraft.) I don't disagree with you on this and it makes sense based on what little I know about 3200's.. Is there any document...

Re: Tail wheel Spring Tension: A video of how to do it

There are other problems with this video Sorry, sometimes my sarcasm just gets away from me :D The first problem is that this video should have been called "How NOT to hand prop an airplane" I can't see one thing he is doing right... It's one of the scariest things I have ever seen. And t...

I made my own copying the original using heavy stainless steel safety wire. Cut the ends off at a sharp angle to give them a point.

Talk to Bob Ross at United flight in Watsonville. http://www.united-flight.com/index.html Bob is a first class metal and mechanical guy and his partner in crime Terry McKenna is an engine guru. Both of them are two of the nicest guys in the business, and both are IA's. Bob loves 170's and has rebuil...

Re: Spring gear leg fairings? / AV10

Does anyone make an aerodynamic fairing for spring steel landing gear legs found on older Cessnas like our C170s? Kent IMHO any improvement in performance from such a modification on a low powered aircraft like a 170 will be the result of your wallet being that much lighter from having purchased th...

Re: 60 amp alt witing diagram

Fred Lagno holds the STC for the 60 amp alternator. He sent me the wiring digram and installation instructions before I bought the STC. He was very helpful and the STC was $85.00 (several years ago). I did the installation in my 120 and was very happy with the results. This letter is from Fred from ...
