Re: Need recommendations for ADSB In

I installed a tailbeacon x, seems everyone can see me, now I want to see them too ! What seems to be the best solution out there ? There are a plethora of ADS-B out/in options on the market these days, most of which are somewhat affordable to the average G.A. owner. Typically, the best solution for...

Re: Cleaning, priming & re-skinning elevator spar

Good idea George. I got into this project yesterday and pretty quickly realized I wasn't properly equipped. I had no more nylon brushes left, only one pad of scotch-brite, and a meager sandpaper selection. Still, in about 4 hours I was able to complete the bulk of the cleaning on the spar, although ...

Re: Cleaning, priming & re-skinning elevator spar

I've never used a chemical cleaning process, only mechanical, so I've never used this product. However, I just spent about 5 minutes researching Alumiprep 33 and its application process. I'm sold, especially at 19.95/qt from spruce. Thanks John! I'll have to keep scrubbing the superficial grime by h...

Re: Cleaning, priming & re-skinning elevator spar

Well, turns out I can get my fingers in far enough with a red scotch pad. Still not sure how to clean the webbing.

Cleaning, priming & re-skinning elevator spar

New topic for the ongoing restoration of '26C. In addressing some corrosion on the elevator torque tube I discovered sufficient corrosion in the rivets (heads spin off when drilled), to warrant opening the elevators entirely, clean prime & re-skin. While I knew this was a project getting started...

Re: Availability of Avcon cowl components

Thanks, Dave. I tried several times today, but couldn't get through - left a message. Ghost, I called Dave Stoots as backup and he directed me to CAC plastics in Wasilla. The fella I spoke to took my information to arrange a meet up to diagnose my existing nose bowl for repair options. I'm pretty op...

Re: Availability of Avcon cowl components

Thanks, Charlie. I have seen references to such on this forum, but I'm also having difficulty locating contact information for Del-air. Don't suppose you have a lead on that?

Availability of Avcon cowl components

This is bound to be a long-running project, but I'd like to hasten it a bit. And, honestly, I could use some advice. I would like to replace the entire cowling setup for my B-model, 180hp Bush conversion, but replacement parts are just impossible to find, they are extremely difficult to locate even ...

Re: Instrument Panel

So, bit of a story: upon cleaning and inspecting the replacement panel, I discovered that while the surface pitting was light, the entire panel was exfoliating! So, I went to Reeve's here in Anchorage and picked up a 1'X4' sheet of 0.125" 2024 T3 at $18/sq.Ft. I then took the replacement panel ...

Re: Instrument Panel

Sorry Joshua, I didn’t intent to call you out; in fact I missed the fact that you have a later B-model. At the time I built a new panel for mine (2010), I got the sheet from Aircraft Spruce and the smallest I could get was 2’x4’, enough for two panels, and sold the half I didn’t use to anoth...

Re: Instrument Panel

I don't suppose anyone has a CAD file built for the floating panel, P/N 0513004-11? I would like to have a replacement for mine cut locally, but with the top center positions left uncut, in order to install a panel dock for my Garmin 396. I'd be willing to pay/give a donation for a copy of the file...

Re: Exhaust smells

Does anyone know if the gear leg seal P/N 0611064 for an L-19 Bird Dog can be used to replace P/N 0511125 gear leg seal for our 170's? The L-19 gear leg is slightly larger, so it may not seal as well as the 0511125 (but you can make your own out of ordinary nitrile sheet gasket material.) Any idea ...

Re: Instrument Panel

Thanks Richard,

That's where I'm based, so I'll look into it. I'll see if there is much cost savings between a repair station and a non-aviation related shop, in this regard.

Re: Instrument Panel

It's no problem. I make it a point to do my research before I share any information, so I just feel silly for doing otherwise in this instance. Anywhoo, I agree about the water cutting. I've been informed there's a place out in wasilla/palmer area that specializes in cutting street signs, and if the...

Re: Instrument Panel

I'm not sure yet, Miles. I haven't put a caliper on mine yet, which is a '54 model. Heh, I took an educated guess, and got called out on it. Although, to be fair, I'm still in the planning stage.
