Re: C170, rear seat removal/installation !!

Bruce: Dave: Thanks for both reply and the valuable information. I have the seat removed as of this morning---and it will be the last time we struggle doing it that way ! It will be re-installed in two sections !! I can't imagine how much mumbling and groaning over the years I did with that seat. Al...

C170, rear seat removal/installation !!

I have been maintaining my 52 170B for 15 years now. Every year the requirement to remove back seat for annual or 100 hour inspection purposes is driving me crazy, not to mention the risk of scratching paint and perforating and breaking aft windows--again-- !! Can it be only me ? I have been in cont...

Vic: Thanks for that. I've done it all so far except go to 3214T . I'll do that now and live with the problem. It isn't the end all. I spent a lot of years flying heavy aircraft with no steerable tail wheels so it could be worse. If the 170 steering goes U/S, I can still gaet home ok---providing I h...

Hello George: Thanks for your reply. I have gone through two arms. The tailwheel has had new bearings. The pawl is working ok and has been disassembled and everything inspected---more than once. First time I did this there were, in fact, five springs. I removed two. The U spring is ok. As for lubric...

If you do a search on this subject it has been talked about some time in the past. I seem to recall that Scott made some arms out of aluminum, even the bent up ones. Members where finding they bend. They shouldn't. Apparently they started using steal again and they are much stronger. At least that ...

Eric:
Thanks or your thoghts. I kind of thought that arm (3214T) would be stronger and give a better geometry. Will do that change and live with it that way.

Thanks,
Alan

Chuck: Thanks for the reply Chuck. When I installed the present arm(new) it was straight at that time. It has bent upwards and now has cracks at the base where the arms join the body. This is second one. I'm pretty sure it is because there's too much upward force on the arms due to way they attach t...

Scott 3200 Tail wheel

Hi: I have continuing problems(and I have the feeling I'm not alone) with the steerring arm bending upwards and eventually cracking on my tail wheel steering. I have adjusted the chain tension as per Scott. I have losened them as well to prevent this bending with the result I have poor steering. I w...

1952 Serial numbers.

Thanks for your input gentelmen. I really didn't give it too much serious thought other than starting to look for another 170 with an existing SN!!! I should have moved more quickly and bought one before I received the explanation. Oh well, maybe I can sneak one home here anyway.

Thank

Serial numbers from 25000 through 25372

I own 1952 170B CF-FVD manufacture's serial # 25112. I notice in the "Cessna 170 Timeless Classic Book" page 10, where it lists aircraft by serial # and dates, that there is a group of numbers that are not shown as ever having existed ! My 25112 SN being one of those numbers. I have racked...

Alan, new paint, new interior, fresh engine... You're ready for the $100 hamburgers now! J.D.: No money left for hamburgers !! When I broke my engine in, I spoke with Guy-Paul Mongrain who had rebuilt it. He recommended mineral oil till it seated properly, with oil change at the first 10 hours, the...

Newly overhauled "0" time 0300

I just had my engine overhauled and new Millenium cylinders, new mags, overhauled stater generator etc. etc. I have about ten hours on it now. Like you folks in the US, I can't get 80/87 anymore and I detest 100LL. Previously I have been using about 25% 100LL and 75% regular mogas mixed. I am getting...
