Master Contactor Stuck?

Looking for opinions on diagnosing what is believed to be an electrical issue.

When placing the master switch to the off position, the current remains on for 10 - 30 seconds. After this it shuts down and all remains off. Would this be a switch problem or a contactor (master solenoid) problem?

Re: Master Relay or Solenoid, Battery contactor

Very good and timely information, for me at least. THANKS. Saved a bunch of time on my part. Found two solenoids from Wicks Aircraft. One is listed as a starter intermittent solenoid, p/n 24037, $19.95. The other as a master continuous solenoid, p/n 24115, $23.55. The descriptions cover both and ind...

Re: Wheel Pants Alignment

Or is this a 170 specific thing Not absolutely sure of the answer, but my informal data collection supports the hypothesis that this is unique to the 170. There's at least one reason to align the fairings with the flat bottoms parallel with the ground. If aligned with the longitudinal axis of the a...

Re: Strange 170

From Wikipedia, for what it's worth: Model 309 and 319 Between 1951 and 1955 Cessna used modifications of the 170 and its derivative, the U.S. Army L-19, as test beds for Boundary layer control research, under contract to the Office of Naval Research and the Army Transportation Corps, designating the...

Re: Wheel Pants

I pulled mine years ago; mounting hardware and all. Like the larger tires and the ready access to the Schrader valve. It's also easier to find a place to position a step ladder. The tires don't scratch like the wheel pants do when someone puts a step ladder against them. I was told that Michelin tub...

a couple of teen age brothers did it in a Cub with sectionals and wrote a book
Flight of Passage by Rinker Buck. Good book. They did it in the 60s, if memory serves.

Re: Promised some updates...

rust or oxidation mean's the same thing, Doesn't it? I'd contend that these are two somewhat different phenomena inthat one is specific and the other more generic. You rocket scientists and chemists out there: correct this if I'm mistaken. Oxidation is the addition of oxygen to another element to f...

Re: Cessna 170 Loan Issues

I bought my a/c through an equity loan. It was no big deal. Just don't tell the lender that it's going to an aircraft purchase. Mine was for a "home improvement"; and it was the truth. My home is vastly improved with a red-and-white 170 B close to it. An alternative is what a friend of min...
