EGT Temps while flying

Got a ? about EGT (lil ole indicator way over on the right), Does anyone pay any attention to it?
What is the maximum temp we should see? Full rich to lean will be 25*-50* difference.
Nothing in my owner's manual.
Anybody got their $0.02 worth to put in?

N3585C flying again after oops

Got the ole girl back into the air last Thursday after my LH brake failure ground loop at Chandler, AZ in May. Used North Sound Aviation in Sedro Wooley, WA to straighten the L MLG. Takes a while but Jim does excellent work and it's really hard to find a "lady leg" gear. After all said and...

Re: oops Now need a B model MLG

Compared to a 170 the "B" model has the heavier /thicker gear. Am I wrong on this? Got a 170 here on the field and it has the thinner legs and they are splayed out. George, sort this out for me/us. Don't have my parts manual with me.

Re: oops Now need a B model MLG

George, Need the left MLG. Let me know the price. Left brake leaked out. Repaired a few weeks ago. Flew last sunday, no problem. Well I thought I had it repaired. It's got Clevelands. Poked right brake to get back on center line going about 15mph. Just kept going right until oops. Left brake went to...

oops Now need a B model MLG

Lost left brake in flight on June 22, unbeknownst to me. Landed at Chandler, AZ. 22R and promptly ground looped to the right at appx 15mph. Needless to say I'm gonna need a 170B (no lady legs please) MLG strut. Headed up to CHND on 29 June to load the ole girl on a trailer. Would like to start the r...

170 down at Parker, AZ

Got word of a 170B down at Parker, AZ last week. Airport name Avi Suquilla, P20 Parker AZ.
Word is that both got out okay. Witnesses said it was "wobbling" on short final and went over
on it's back. Burnt to a crisp.
Anyone we know and hope they're ok?

Gill Battery class

To all, Spent a couple of hours on a saturday recently with the Gill Battery rep in a class. He drove down to Yuma, AZ for problems with a battery charger and ended up giving us a class on Gill Batteries and I thought I'd pass on some of that infomation: Aircraft batteries 12V at rest (10-24hrs afte...

retractable landing light repair

Need help. Need someone who has a close-up photo of the grimes landing light. Really need a closeup of the contacts in the light assy. I've already got the wiring diagrams but our insulation has disintegrated (at least the insulating phenolic has) and need a picture to rebuild. What kind of rivets h...

FAA/PMA Switches-solenoids-etc. etc.

I'm sure George will correct me if I've misquoted him but here goes. If we can use non-faa/pma parts for switches/fuses/bulbs, why do we need to use faa/pma solenoids?. This was posted somewhere in the forums but I cannot locate it so someone please catch me up on the comment.

assist straps

I had the correct fittinings in my 55' 170B. Straps needed recovering-badly frayed. I recovered mine with white heat shrink , then protected that from getting dirty with clear heat shrink. You can get heat shrink in whatever color your interior is (within reason) Been in the aircraft since I recover...

secondary seat stop

Cessna will only pay for the Pilot's seat. They have to do it at an approved Cessna Repair Center. Your local A&P cannot do it and expect to be paid by anyone but you.

Sudden Engine Vibration

Sunday morning vibration problem solved. Had low compression on the #4 cyl during compression checks. I could hear air leaking thru the intake filter. Pulled valve cover and staked the intake valve. Also gave the exhaust a shot or two. Compression checks good per Continental’s Service bulletin and...

Sudden Engine Vibration

Here's my sunday morning story: Took off with a friend(Harrier Driver, who had to eject Tueday night due to engine failure-he's okay) and his dad. Got appx 5 miles north of airport and all of a sudden had an engine vibration, bad one. Went full rich on the mixture, no change-started a turn back to t...
