Re: 1948 Ragwing Engine cooling
Thank you all for your most valuable comments and advice. I was a member - somehow fallen off the membership. Will get myself back on. I'll take a look at all the factors and get back. Presently the plane is sitting in a tropical download in Mwanza, Tanzania, being admired during the day by Caravan ...

1948 Ragwing Engine cooling
I have been reading up on all the posts relating to high oil temperatures and have some questions that I have not found an answer to. My 170 is running in the 215 degree range. I am flying in outside air temps of around 80 in Kenya - hot and high most of the time. Questions 1: What purpose are the t...

Re: Generator question and challenges
Hi again - thanks again for the feedback. I have as a result of your feedback discovered my problem has grown!! Having been advised to buy a 20A generator I see my generator which is leaking oil and making horrible grinding noises is a 35A 1101917 which is hard to find. I can stop the order for the ...

Re: Generator question and challenges
Thanks for the feedback. I do have the old generator, but was hoping the new one just bolts on with a new gasket! Non clear from your responses if that is the case. Does the refurbished generator not arrive as a complete unit ready to go? I have spare seals and bushes and gasket. I did not understan...

Generator question and challenges
Hi All Nick here in Kenya. I am having major challenges with my ragwing generator. After many attempts to sort it out I have ordered a refurbished Delco Remy generator set from Aircraft Spruce which is taking a long time to get here but should arrive in the next week. The generator is coming from Ai...

Top Overhaul
Hi All. It turns out that I have one cracked cylinder. We are therefore going to carry out a Top Overhaul with 900 hrs remaining on the engine life. As there are no parts in Kenya please could you advise as to where the best place is to order a list of parts from including at least one new cylinder....

Re: Low Compression on 2 Cylinders
To All - I had a second compression test and the numbers are not good. 52; 32; 0. I have delivered the plane to the maintainance shop in Nairobi and they are going to pull the cylinders and take a look. It's looking like I may go with a full set of new cylinders as there are 900 hrs remaining on the...

Re: Low Compression on 2 Cylinders
Thanks for all the feedback. When I turn the prop both exhausts give a big 'sigh'. They don't do that on the 180 so just wandering if that is a sign?

Re: Low Compression on 2 Cylinders
Thanks to all for your very useful comments and advice. I live in Kenya where my 170 is the only one here. The maintainance options are limited and when it comes to pulling the cylinders any number of chain reaction disasters can begin. The compressions that came back from the last 100 service were ...

Low Compression on 2 Cylinders
