Re: Good Repair Shop

Try Nick Keith 309 992 8760 based at C15 Pekin Il. He does good work and/or may be able to recommend someone closer.

Re: Plane Power Alternator

Sorry to hear about the Plane Power issues. I know half a dozen guys running them and I put one on my 120 years ago- no issues.

Yes- it does sure look like a Denso!

Re: Jasco Alternator Repair

You might try calling Quickstart Electrical in East Peoria IL 309 694 3800 or Harvey Brothers in Galesburg IL 309 342 3137. Both have been around many years and do good work.

Re: Prop Survey

Thanks for all the replies! For now I will likely just run what I have. Maybe if the weather warms up I may see if we could swap props for a check. The 170 pretty much does what I want- especially after flying a 120 for 16 years. ( a 120/140 is pretty economical to own and operate- less than 5 gallo...

Re: Prop Survey

[quote]Hi Andy, do you have a 6 or 8 bolt crank?[quote] Mine is an 8 bolt. Flew it today- at 2000 feet wide open- tach showed 2700rpm. GPS average 2 directions was 115 knots. I was contemplating a 76 53 McCauley a friend has for short field performance, but am wondering how likely it would be to ove...

Prop Survey

Just wondering what most people are running for propellers? Any preference for McCauley or Sensenich? Are you satisfied with what is on the plane or have a wish list for something different? I live in flat country and like grass strips- currently running a Sensenich 74 56 because that was on the pla...

Seat Interchange Options

I noticed a survey about non standard seats installed.
Does anyone know what model seats will work as a slide-in replacement?
Articulating 172 seats?
Particular model years?
Any preferences for comfort?

ALSO- what models should be AVOIDED concerning potential issues- AD's, Failures, etc....

Re: Autofuel

Both the EAA and Petersen have STC's for auto fuel. I have only run it for about 1400+ hours in a 120 and a 170. Yes- you WILL find beliefs pro and con. My experience is no more plug fouling and lower operating costs. It is roughly 2 dollars a gallon cheaper than 100LL here. I DO feel you should NOT...

Re: O300 New Design Cylinders- Continental Motors

I installed a set of ECI steel cylinders on a C120 I used to own- they broke in easily- never leaked anywhere and only used a few ounces of oil between changes every 20 hours- Using Phillips X/C 20-50. The leak down compressions when the new owner did the pre-buy inspection last fall was 80/80 all 4...

Re: best palce to buy Cleveland wheels and brakes (kit 199-

FWIW- I called Parker last year and the gentleman said just give him the N number and serial number and they will send you a copy of the STC. (Probably because they want to sell you parts!) He also said the 40-97 wheels were listed in the 199-46 kit but 40-113's would also probably work as they were...

Re: $100 Hamburger MID WEST (OH,KY,IL,IN,MI,WI,WV)

Bloomington Illinois KBMI http://www.airnav.com/airport/KBMI GREAT restaurant on the field- in the OLD terminal, away from the commercial operations. VERY convenient parking in front and NO landing fees! Nice patio when weather is permitting- watch the planes take off and land. Prairie Aviation Muse...

Re: Cylinders

3 years ago I installed ECI steel cylinders on my C120 with a C85- about 320 hours on them now- broke in well- good compressions and NO oil usage. Using Phillips XC20-50 per ECI recommendation. VERY pleased with them!

Re: Fuel

My two cents... I've run mogas in my 120 (C85) for 1000 hours or so with no issues other than NOT having to clean the plugs that would foul every 50 hours when using 100LL. I DID break in the ECI steel cylinders ( good product!) with 100LL. The 170A (C145) seems to run fine on it as well. I know sev...

Re: 170 Tailwheel difficulty

I agree with the above posts! I own a nice120 (for about 15 years) and recently bought a 170A. I have about 1350 hours in the 120 and about 60 hours 170A time. The 120 is MUCH lighter on the controls and feels "sportier". It is also cozy for a couple of "large" people. That being...
