Thanks George..... No more leak.
FYI, 17 foot pounds really didn't correspond with 135 degrees of turn. I stuck with the SB number.

Re: Oil Sump Drain Torque
I torqued it to 17 after looking at SB 96-7c and talking with my IA. After flying it this weekend I noticed it was still leaking pretty good from the sump drain threads. I went out there today and had a look at the threads and everything looked good with no obvious corrosion(the drain I removed look...

Oil Sump Drain Torque
What is the correct torque value for the oil sump quick drain with the copper crush washer? According to Continental SB96-7c the value is 15.8-17.5 ft/lbs, but I also found that for the copper crush washer the value for is 135 degrees of turn after contact. What should the torque value be in this ap...

Re: 337's
That's what I was thinking. My IA sent it in and I never heard anything so I assumed all is OK. Sounds like no news is good news.
Thanks!
Thanks!

337's
Does the FAA ever mail you back a signed copy of the 337 after you send it in to them for signature? It seems like they should....otherwise how would I know it got signed and approved by the FAA?

Re: Flight of Passage
I love that book and I actually got my wife to read it too. I dream of the day when I send my two boys cross country in the 120. I will check their pockets and the aircraft for any technology devices before they leave. :D Thanks for posting the link to the blog. I hadn't heard about it yet. I also t...

Re: Flight Controls Free / Active
The airplane was lost but luckily 3 out of the 5 crew members lived. From then on the checklist became integral to the way the Air Force did business....or at least thats the story they told us in our CRM class.

Re: Flight Controls Free / Active
The "checklist" was born with the B-17. On the first flight they forgot to remove the elevator lock and did some serious damage. The checklist did a lot for making aviation a hell of a lot safer.

Re: leaning procedures and EGT
Are you folks always leaning or just when you get above a certain altitude? I've been using 3,000'. For short hops when I am just playing in the weeds or hitting the pattern I haven't been leaning.

Re: 27% 170B build
Any updates? At the pace you started out at I thought for sure you would be done by now. I'm sure the nice weather and hopefully and in annual airplane have slowed you down a bit. It sure did cut down on my desire to polish...

Re: 170A Sportsman STOL
If it were me, I would just throw some VG's on the A model and call it good. If you have the funds, eventually put in a bigger engine. With theses planes the challenge is not usually getting in....but getting out.
Not the answer to your question, but figured I would throw it out there.

Re: Exhaust Leak
That looks like exactly what I need. I was lacking a second set of hands when I was trying to finish up 4 and 6. That tool would solve that problem....or I just do it early in the morning when my friends haven't abandoned the airport due to the heat(98 degree day today). Thanks for the "tip&quo...

Re: Exhaust Leak
One side is pretty much done...after much swearing and sweating. They do in fact have the C clips mentioned above. The only issue I ran into was getting the rocker arms back in. My IA showed me how to do it on one cylinder but when left on my own, I couldn't get the 4 and 6 cylinder rod to push back...
