Re: up elevator control linkage hitting airspeed indicator

Don’t fly until you get it fixed. Had one experience after a shop changed out gyro. The chain caught on improperly installed vacuum line clamp fitting,

Re: Harmonic Balancer Stuck?

An out in left field thought. Could the vibration be due to elevator or trim tab flutter? Unlikely. Elevator or tab “flutter” would ordinarily progress rapidly to destruction and probable loss of the airplane. (and one of the reasons to be wary of excessive “play” in the tab during pre-flight inspe...

Re: What were these holes for?

With reference to the Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) Fig. 36 arm rest assembly -22 and arm rest assembly -24 there are apparently 3 different arm rests for the C-170 based on serial numbers. Each assembly has 3 screws and Tinnerman nuts on each side of the fuselage holding the arm rests in position...

Re: Photo Album

YUP, that's me in the picture with N3415D, a 1955 170B I purchased in 1984 from an IA in Montana. The price of purchase included a new 1956 paint scheme, interior and engine overhaul. I took delivery in Denver July 2, 1983 at Aprapahoe County Field (now Centennial KAPA) in Colorado and flew it to it...

The plane is still flying according to FAA.gov aircraft N number lookup on web. I see it’s owned by LLC in Sheridan, Arkansas. Write owner if interested in details on the access panel.

Re: Aft fuselage inspection panel

In the past, I also had the steering cables and pulleys serviced by removing Horizontal and vertical stabilizers. As an FYI, former 170 member David Laseter’s ‘55 170B N4387B airplane has rectangular inspection panel installed for servicing steer for cables. I asked him about it and he said he bough...

Re: Rusty Water in fuel tank?

You’re going to find out its a ton of work. From memory, as I understand it there’s really only one gasket that’s sealing water from entering the tank, that’s the one inside the tank. The two cork gaskets are there to provide fretting / dissimilar metal protection. One, between the tank wing access...

I called the Barnstormers Grill and they are looking forward to our arrival. Masks are not required in the dinning area and tables are set up for groups of 4 to 8 people. Latest weather report is for clear skies and afternoon temperatures in high 60’s.

PS: Self Service Avgas is $2.99/gallon

Re: Cylinder Head Temps - Cylinders 5, 6

Brian, many years ago my IA, during replacement of all engine baffles, installed front cylinder baffles on #5 and #6 as used on early Cessna 172 that have the same nose cowl as Cessna 170. They work great.

Re: Siliconized fabric for cabin bug holes

I found that “silver backed aluminum” tape from hardware store worked for me. When my home heating vents were replaced, the repairman left some of his high temp tape for me. I also use it to cover old screw holes.
