Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

There is an AD to change the switch if the key comes out in any but the off position.

Re: Heath Strobe Radio Noise

Here is another option http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/el/ledlighting_vwing/navstrobesextant.php All this requires is to replace the wingtip and tail light with the combination LED strobe and light units, they just plug in the light socket, no wire changes, all Fed legal and remove the old unit ...

Re: Heater duct trim pieces

I have no idea what the part number is but the 56 170 that I am rebuilding has them. I made new ones. they are .016 aluminum and are simple to make. I would be willing to make a pair for you, unfortunately I am in Florida and my airplane and shop is in Minnesota, If you are willing to wait until Apr...

Re: Landing Gear Alignment

I loaded the airplane with 700# of sand bags, 240 for gas and 400 for people 60 for seats removed to make room sand bags. that lowered the camber to 5 degrees. yes the wheels are on two grease plates. I am milling 5 degree shims and will see how that works out. How do I identify which gear I have? T...

Re: Landing Gear Alignment

Aircraft has not been weighed yet but is complete and pretty much standard. to shim the axels to 0 would require a shim that would taper from 3/8 in. to 0 and the bolts would have to bend to accommodate that much shim. The 180 gear on the 170 has been done before and has anyone had the problem and i...

Re: Landing Gear Alignment

I have no idea which 180 gear is on the airplane but I am pretty sure it has not been damaged as both sides are the same.
I will try to attach a photo.
170 camber1.jpg
Cessna says 0 camber, 0 toe in. This is way to much, what am I missing?

Landing Gear Alignment

I have a 170B, 1956 with a 180 gear that I am rebuilding. The wheels have 8 degrees of positive camber, what is the best way to correct that? it would require a shim about 3/8th inch thick at the bottom, ( not an option ) and no, the gear is not damaged. Can I use a press and bend the gear leg? Is i...

Re: inner air box seal

Make your own seal, Aircraft Spruce has 1/4 in felt in sheets, cut two 1/2 in strips and glue together and wrap with cloth covered rubber cut from apron used in chemical lab or rubber rain coat. sew closed, looks like original. Apron cost me $17.00 and I think felt was around $7 or$8, enough for 2 a...

Re: Right Muffler Back Blew Out

You do not need a backfire to lose the back of a muffler. the end of the muffler had a dome in it to help absorb the flexing from heat expansion, the radial weld can develop a crack and fail without a backfire. It happened to me in a cessna 140 which has the same style mufflers, and bellive me that ...
