Re: Our 1956 Cessna 170 photo documentation

I have serial number 27019 , I think a 1956 model year, with a single venturi on the right side. No obvious signs of any others being removed.

Re: Parking brake removal ?

well I don't know anything about the legality but I took mine out today as it was causing the left brake to intermittently stay on. With lots of left rudder the spring that joined the two metal tabs on the master cylinder shaft was hitting the firewall carpeting and lifting the tab. Not a good situa...

Re: Seat rebuilds

I have a wanted ad on Barnstormers for some Atlee Dodge seats and a nice man from Dubai offered to sell me all 4 of Bigrennas seats for only 1500 delivered. Seems like a good deal to me!! Maybe just a bit too good. 02.jpg 01.jpg Hello Thanks for your response Find the following photos and price Aski...

Re: Slipping with Flaps

Also regarding the comment as to how the airplane knows it's in a crosswind. I would venture to say that when maintaining runway centerline the airflow over the wings and tail would be different in a crosswind. As I see it the actual slip is different to maintain the centreline to accommodate the c...

Re: Brake reservoir plug

Mine are plastic and look like they came from ACE but I am almost sure they have a hole/breather drilled in them

Re: Tailwheel cables slack

Today was my annual so we pulled the empennage and looked at the tailwheel cables. The left tailwheel cable had slid on the rudder cable. It had two clamps, one finger tight and the other really not much tighter. Quite a lot of work to get here, but this is a new plane to me (and my first plane) so ...

Re: Slipping with Flaps

Charlie, 20 degrees and a slip should be OK. The warning is against a full flap slip. Good, that was my feeling , and I usually do this with plenty of altitude to get myself onto the approach I want, often on base. Flying into my little home base (1700ft runway) after learning to fly at Victoria (7...

Re: Slipping with Flaps

I have tried slipping with full flaps at altitude. What I felt was a softening of elevator authority, and a lack of centering - when I pulled up the elevator italmost wanted to pull me in that direction. Definitely a loss of authority but I never got the full nose down attitude, probably due to my l...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack

I have two clamps each side. I appreciate that if the clamps continue to slide too far they can restrict rudder travel, but I have a good four inches before that could happen. I think that the worst I risk at the moment is the cables become slack again and losing precise tailwheel steering. Rudder c...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack

I looked at the tailwheel today with my AME. he feels that the left hand tailwheel cable is slipping on the rudder cable, and that he can see movement. We are going to take off the empennage and have a good look in a couple of weeks when he has a free day. I have decided to fly the plane meanwhile, ...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack

And some more. I had to take out four links to get them snug off the ground, and they tightened significantly when they were back on the ground. My parking spot is slightly sloped so the tailwheel is a little elevated. The tailwheel seems to be locking and unlocking correctly, it was rebuilt by Alas...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack

I do have a bellcrank on the rudder with attachment points for tailwheel cables. I wonder if I should not just remove this entire system and got to the pre 55 (or whenever) system of direct of the rudder? Sure seems like a more simple solution, as Colin Chapman said "simplify, then add lightnes...
