Project 170 back in the air!!
The 170 project I have been working on the last year and a half has officially flown again! Was test flown a couple weeks ago for the first time since around 1991. Pilot said it flew great with no problems whatsoever! The 92 year old owner will be coming to ride around in it and fly a little here so...

Re: Engine to firewall bushings (1948)
George, He is the one that noticed them. Asked me to do some extra research. He is just deciding whether he feels ok about them being there.

Re: Engine to firewall bushings (1948)
Bruce, Thank you for your Candor. I guess it all depends on who is signing the paperwork huh. Thank you so much for your insight.
It's great to see this old bird almost back to flying condition. Couldn't have done it without information like this.

Re: Engine to firewall bushings (1948)
Ok, Didn't think so. Next question, this makes it an illegal installation... Is there a downside to having these installed? Any real reason for them to be installed? I have a feeling our IA will say to remove them.

Re: Engine to firewall bushings (1948)
Ken, It shows a pad of some kind, yet the part numbers are convoluted. The A and B IPC shows the rubber mounts and define them as P/N 0550355 (fire wall) and 0550154-2 (cabin). Does it say AN960-616 and AN970-6? That's what mine says, AN960 is a normal washer, and AN970 is a large area washer. That...

Re: Cowling installation, and fuel line routing
Ok, ours does have all 2 inch scat tubing, not the funny funnel. So it looks like we are ok. Thanks for all your help guys! Invaluable information.

Engine to firewall bushings (1948)
So, while checking torque on all important attach bolts. We noticed there are rubber bushings on engine side, and on the cabin side. The IPC does not show them. From research on here, I don't see that a SN before 19200 is supposed to have them. Do I need to remove them, or is there some approval for...

Re: Cowling installation, and fuel line routing
Thanks Dan, That helps alot! Now I know we were on the right track with the routing. Did you put fire sleeve on the lines?
And you mentioned the Hanlon Wilsons being a field approval. Aren't they on the TCDS?

Re: Exhaust air intake scoop
So next question. There is not flange to attach to on ours. And it looks like number 82 on figure 34 could be it. But can't be sure. Any thoughts?Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:Ken, yes the scat attaches just as if appears to the flange under the baffle.

Re: Cowling installation, and fuel line routing
That would be awesome if you could. Just having a hard time understanding where the return line goes. Don't know how there is room to go around the front with both. No we don't have the plumbing. We have to make it. Along its life somewhere it was removed, thinking it was not needed. So we bought a ...

Re: Exhaust air intake scoop
We were posting at the same time. Actually the '52 is similar depending on the mufflers. The scoops are a '52 thing and maybe even as far back as '50 but are not found on '49 and '48 aircraft. See my post above. It is the 1948. It had the pancakes, but we had a Hanlon Wilson full system built by Kn...
