Seems like independent tests show camguard to be beneficial for rust protection:

And this article was written by the inventor of camguard, so read wtih caution:

I checked with AVEMCO - no increase in premiums for spouses.

Primary instructor in Pullman/Moscow area
We are moving to Pullman/Moscow area this August and my wife expressed interest in learning to fly. Does anyone know of a primary instructor who would be willing to teach her to fly in our 1952 Cessna 170B with the Avcon Lycoming conversion and CS prop? Also it's on 8.50x10 tires and large tailwheel...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
The CFI is actually very experienced, having ran a part 135 air taxi up in Alaska for a while. Has lots of float, ski, tundra tire time in Cessnas, Cubs, and Champs, and he is a very good bush pilot. He is a little cavalier as his action demonstrates, and obviously not familiar with the full flap sl...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
I was having a BFR yesterday and on one of the landings I was a bit high on short final so the CFI says to do a slip - I say can't it's prohibited with full flaps - he says watch - and grabs the yoke and stomps on the rudder - I in turn fight the controls and end up doing less than full on aggressiv...

Re: Tailwheel Springs
Well, I replaced the tailwheel spring (ended up doing the whole stack) and the shimmy is as bad as before... The only other thing I can think of is the steering chains are too tight. But when I add one more link, both springs are slack and there doesn't seem to be enough throw on the tailwheel to gi...

Re: Tailwheel Springs
Thanks George,
The mainspring is 0542106
The steel lock nut is AN363-720
What is the part number for the L-19 eyebolt and do most people install it eye up (easier to tie-down) or down?
Thanks again!

Re: Tailwheel Springs
That tailspring in the picture looked brand new. I think it broke due to either poor landing practice (3 pointing it) on those strips or just having the too small, stock tire for the rough strips. So before I order the bolt, nut and the spring - which spring do you guys recommend? It seems like I ha...

Re: Tailwheel Springs
There sure seems to be a lot of tailwheel springs activity going on lately! I hope ya'll don't mind me adding my question. During the recent trip to the Wrangells, almost every cabin logbook had at least one story of broken tailwheel springs. I even found this specimen on a wall: https://lh4.googleu...

Re: Take-off to clear obstacle. Whats your method?
George, Thank you for the great explanation that the limitation only applies to climb performance and not the ground run. Essentially during the 2 phases of takeoff over 50' obstacle the 1st phase (ground run) will always be shortened with the use of 20 degree flaps, wherease the second phase (climb...

Re: Take-off to clear obstacle. Whats your method?
The major difference (as implied previously) is found in engine/thrust losses. While the lift/drag are equally affected (illustrated similarly with IAS vs TAS comparisons) it's the loss of engine performance that affects the configuration recommendation. (Higher density altitudes place the deployed...

Re: Take-off to clear obstacle. Whats your method?
As for the second-part of your question: This is a function of the same problem of taking off with flaps already deployed... It should be obvious that increased density altitude will degrade aircraft climb-performance, partly thru engine performance losses but also thru lifting losses from "th...

Re: Take-off to clear obstacle. Whats your method?
George, Well, there are the short gravel/sand bars that we operate out of that require ground run with 20 degree flaps and then popping full flaps to just get in the air and then slowly accelerate while milking the flaps off in ground effect over the water. I've tested this and it appears that I cou...
