Re: Mixture/Prop/Throttle replacement for 180hp 170B

My 1955 Super 170B with DelAir O-360 uses both of the brackets shown in the pics on this thread. They fit perfect and have continued to work for 400+ hrs now. We referenced a section of AC43-123 related to control cables as FAA Approved Data.

Re: Door latch trouble - pull bar disconnected

Bruce,
If the outside latch works, but the interior one just moves with no actin on the door lock, what do you think is missing that I need to replace to get the interior door handle to operate?

Thank you,
John

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

Two answer from questions above: 1: The MT constant speed propeller STC is valid for ANY version of a -360 or -390 as long as it has hollow crankshaft and ability to mount a hydraulic governor. The 2-blade version is now priced at $16,500 plus options and frt. Two 2-blade and One 3-blade prop models...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

MT can and has made 8 hole fixed pitch props. However, at this time, being so far backlogged with constant speed prop orders, they have placed a hard pause on all fixed pitch prop production. Price was 2850 plus frt and lead time was about 8 weeks when they were making them. Only 16 lbs. You need to...

Re: where to find interior foam insulation

I did my interior walls (after cleaning, priming and epoxy painting) with 1/4 closed cell black foam that has adhesive backing. I think I got it from Spruce or Wag Aero. I did NOT install any cosmetic plastic trim over it. It reduced 'oil caning, noise and gretly helped reduce interior temps in extr...

Re: Steel axel bolts

I just finished work on my '55 170B that required locating and installing longer NAS bolts. Genuine Aircraft Hardware helped located what I needed and sold them to me. Also used Military Hardware.com to locate some. There is a new Military number that replaces the old NAS number. Still they are expe...

Re: Tailwheel steering cable issue

When I rebuilt my '55 170B s/n 26712, we contacted a tech engineer at Cessna who was kind enough to do research and advise us. He said they tried that complex cable pulley system to attempt to get better tailwheel movement with rudder pedals. After a few they decided it was not worth the trouble and...

Re: Extended baggage compartment with aft battery

Larry,
You will love the F Atley firewall battery. Get new Bogart cables and new solenoids while you are doing it.

Re: Extended baggage and baggage mounted battery

I will go on record strongly recommending moving to a firewall mounted, F-Atley Gel Battery. Bringing the battery close to the starter and the heat of the eng compartment both make for much stronger starts.

Re: O-360 install

Feel free to call me with any questions or pics. I used the DelAir kit and many of the mods you described on my 55 C170B. I can save you some trouble and frustration in some of the installations.

These planes are built and TCDS approved under CAR3. That means AC43-13 is APPROVED data for repairs and modifications of these planes.

Re: Worn rudder pedals 170b

I found and install a set of pedals from a C180 and they look much more modern and not as slippy as the originals. Easy 337 minor change under CAR3 ref Cessna drawings for the early 180.

Re: Coin mat flooring (moved from Mx Library)

I got a few rolls of 1/4" thick closed cell fatigue mat material from our local Menards/Home Depo store. 6'x4' piece weighs only 1 lb. I cut it to fit and it simply lays there with no adhesion stuff required. I lift it up or take out to vacuum and inspections. It has the best impact absorbing c...
