Re: Knots 2 U
If you want to remove your flap gap seals, the easiest way is to score the seal along the wing skin and leave the rivets in place . I would think that something sharp like and old arborite knife would possibly work. This is not my idea ,but was told to me by the late Dick Lemmon.

Re: 170B door hinges
My iPad is being replaced otherwise I could take a few pictures of how to repair your hinge. But what I did 15 plus years ago was rivet the same profile aileron hinge into where the tabs are broken off. trim off the broken part, drill out the rivets, fit it together so the door alines properly, dril...

Re: Since Thing are slow...
Went on an archaeology dig tonight and found the write up where a Javelin Autopilot, in 1955, was installed and then, in 1957, removed. The only artifacts from the installation are the two fairings where the autopilot control cables exited the aft fuselage to connect to the rudder control horn. Jav...

Re: Since Thing are slow...
George, mine had some kind of auto pilot steering gismo installed at the factory , it was attached to the rudder, which is attached to the tailwheel. Like Bruce's plane some of the stuff is still in there but not connected to anything.ie. tray, and pulleys, no cables. I have long ago forgotten what ...

Re: New Tailwheel Leaf Springs too thick
This is a good argument for replacing those old springs with, The T3 tailwheel setup looks like a nice design and working great in the uncertified category.and there are good reports from the few field approvals.

Re: Univair tail spring
I still have the twisted main leaf spring that was sent to me several years ago sitting on the shelf. I called them about returning it for a straight one and was told to bad so sad nothing we can do.

Hi Bruce, I have been using Dextron 3 ATF in my hydraulics for the wheel skis, 3 years now no issues. I use the approved 5606 for the brakes. The drawings for the skis never really specified the type of hydraulic oil,so I used atf, red makes it easier to find leaks

Re: New 170B owner
In all seriousness when measuring prop lengths or sheets of aluminum be careful of what measuring tapes you use. I was caught out when we were measuring out on large sheets of aluminum and cutting them up and my “assistant “ was measuring one side with his tape and marking and I was doing the same ...

IMG_6891.jpg George, I am also afraid of heights, wouldn't go up tall church steeples, up the Eiffel tower, CN tower etc. I am okay in aircraft and always thought that it had someting to do with my but planted on a cushion. I was going to test this theory but never had a cushion handy when tall str...

Buddy and I got stranded on Slave when we were ice fishing. -30 C wind blew up and we were instantly caught in a blizzard. Lucky that we were in a fish shack, 3+ ft of ice , and felt pretty safe until the wind really started to howl, ice was rolling pretty good, went out side to check things and cou...

When my plane sat for 6 months waiting for time to repair, the darn little birds moved into the horizontal stab. Perfect swallow condo. thank goodness the mice never found it.
