Re: C-145-2 Exhaust System
I am reluctant to get into the cowling but can do the metal work if absolutely required. I completely understand. This is the reason I didn't install the Wag-Aero tailpipes, installing them would have required that both exit holes in the cowling be enlarged. I wasn't willing to do that. As for the ...

Re: C-145-2 Exhaust System
I recommend AWI. I recently installed 2 new mufflers from AWI on my A-model replacing, what I assume to be, original Hanlon-Wilson mufflers purchased from John Benham years ago. They fit directly onto the exhaust risers without having to loosen them from the cylinders, which surprised me. Also a nei...

Re: U.S. Navy OE-1 Birddog
There is a greatly detailed book about the L-19 called "The Loveable One-Niner: A Complete History of the Cessna L-19 Birddog." The author really did his home work and has a passion for L-19s, as I recall, he owns several of them. And the bonus is, a few pages in there is a picture of a Ce...

Re: Elevator Deflection
Another thought is that the holes in the support bracket that mounts the bellcrank are worn and elongated. This could be caused by a seized bearing, causing the bolt to rotate in the bracket. As the holes elongate, the bellcrank would shift forward. The effect of this would be less up elevator defle...

Re: ?Sticking Valve or Carb Ice?
My 170 had a similar symptoms a few years ago. The engine had about 150 hrs SMOH with new cylinders installed at OH. After the normal diagnostics (inspect plugs, compression test, etc.) I found that Cyl. #2's piston rings were stuck (all of them stuck... very stuck). Since the oil ring was stuck I b...

Re: O 300D manual
Be cautious when using manuals scanned by others. As in this case, the O-300 IPC for download from the site above is missing 2 pages (6&7).

Re: met-co-aire tri gear
In 1955 our 170a had the Met-Co-Aire Tricycle gear conversion installed, and in 1976 it was converted back. The only documentation we have about the conversion and removal is a 337 for each. The exact wording of the removal 337 is: "Removed Met Co Aire Model 3 Triangle gear. Restored aircraft t...

Re: Continental O-360 Conversion kit
That picture was from 1964, a member found it on an auction website and wrote a letter to my father to inform him.
She was converted back sometime in the 70s. Unfortunately we still have a lot of evidence of the conversion still on, in and around the airplane.
What she looks like these days...

static RPM
Me and my Father just rebuild the c-145-2h in our 170a and we are finding that it only gets 2100 RPM static. The numbers I once saw for the 170a was 2250-2350 static. (Now for the list) It has 6 new millemium cyl., new slick mags, 1a170 7653 prop., new plugs. We have checked and changed the timing, ...
